• AGAT is the best company I have ever worked for. I have been with AGAT for more than 10 years. I understand some of the concerns that other people have posted. It is difficult to offer proper compensation to highly educated staff due to the extremely competitive nature of the Environmental testing lab business. It is a good place to obtain experience. • I have worked at the production labs as a seasonal employee since finishing school. AGAT is a lot like the other labs. I worked at Maxxam before. Some is better at AGAT. Some is the same. Some is worse. They have some permanent staffs and then when sample work increase, they hire contract employees to get through the work. It is not terrible working at AGAT, but when you finish University you want to make more money. All of the production labs pays badly. I think working in a lab is much better than the mall. Everyone says AGAT is a stepping company. I think it could be a career builder company if they gave goals. I like the people in the lab. Everyone is nice and people work hard.
  The managers are friendly. They try to make the place good to work. They sometimes do learning at lunch. Learning sessions should be more often during lunch breaks. There are a lot of smart people working at this company, and if we share our knowledge with each other we would all be stronger staffs.
  AGAT has good people. It is not a perfect company, but there is worse.

• I started as a Client Project Manager Assistant straight out of university with little experience in the industry. Within a year I was promoted to a Client Project Manager. I have been here for over 3 years now and quite enjoy my position. It's great being able to interact with the labs and with the clients. It's a nice balance because I get to use my people skills as well as put my degree to work. During the peak seasons it can get quite stressful with turn around times but the team I work with is great at helping out when others are falling behind.
  
  Benefits are employer paid which is nice. A number of my friends I went to school with have to pay $60-$90/month to use their company benefits plans.
  
  The company does have a number of events throughout the year like the Christmas Party and a Stampede Breakfast which is nice, but could probably benefit from other team building activities.

• As a lab technician, the moment you realize the receptionist makes $4/hr more than you, you know this company is a joke. Who's the one helping make money for the company? The lab techs or the receptionist?
  
  If you need experience, work at the other companies like Maxxam, ALS, etc., only use this place as a last resort and get out ASAP. If not, avoid this place like the plague.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Very poor management. If your ok with long hours to hope to get a $1 raise after a year this is your place. The lack of training only makes me wonder when there will be a lot more accidents. Wish I had left after the first year.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• The reviews for this company seem very poor, and for some of the locations maybe things are worse, but the AGAT lab I worked for was really amazing.
  There seemed to be lots of room for advancement if you did your job well and wished to continue learning.
  They recognized and appreciated a good work ethic. My supervisors took my comments/suggestions seriously and immediately addressed a few safety concerns I had.
  Overall I felt very comfortable and at ease in the work environment. If you are a good worker they will notice and will try to keep you happy.
  The hours were good with potential for overtime if you wanted it and the pay was reasonable to begin with, as, like I said, there seemed to be room to move up rather quickly - and with this would come increases in pay.
  It's a shame there is such a high turnover rate but I feel that has more to do with Alberta, and the sheer abundance of jobs with everyone moving all the time, rather then problems with the company.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Worst company I have ever worked for, I should have left earlier. Very poor management skills, very high turnover as nobody with any experience will stay, extreme micro-management from the very top level of the company, no respect for employees who are treated like cheap labor, and racial discrimination is evident throughout.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• This place is such a joke. The salary for a lab technician is the lowest compared to other analytical companies. If you have friends working higher up in the hierarchy, you will get promoted faster, which comes with a higher salary. However, if you don't, you're not gonna go anywhere. There are some employees that have worked for more than 5+ years haven't even been promoted once, even though they have the skills. If you do have those friends, well lucky you because once you finish your probationary period, you can get promoted even when if you don't do any work. It's ridiculous.

• Malgré que cette entreprise m'ait permise d'apprendre beaucoup (par moi-même disons le pcq la formation est inexistante)il y a un manque de vision long terme flagrant!!!! Un énorme manque de communication, beaucoup trop de chefs qui veulent tout gérer et une ambiance anormalement tendue. • Insulting pay level for the level of education most people have in the labs. Very little appreciation for the work people do. Maybey in other departments its different when looking at the other comments. • This employer has spent 30 years building opportunities for canadians across the country. it amazes me at some of the negative comments i find on this site. My experience at AGAT as been very positive. The management team consists of people who have been there for over 30 years, and others who have grown with the company and put in the time. • Worked there for a few years - enjoyed it considerably at first but the work environment really went down hill from there. Management was incompetent for the most part - did not take concerns seriously, had terrible management skills, and were unprofessional at best. The atmosphere however is good and generally, my co-workers were pleasant and gave me a reason to stay working there. If I could do it again, I would have left much sooner. • This employer cares immensely about the communities it works in and donates to a lot of charities. They have a very postive atmosphere, and a management team that goes above and beyond for you. • Management does not support staff. Frequently writes up employees for procedural and system flaws. Archaic system using paper files and old programs that IT can't even fix. Pay is very low compared to other labs, with no promise of raises or cost of living adjustments.
