• Worked for this employer after high school completed. Very stressful job, expectations for results and very little support to achieve them. Personally was responsible for millions of dollars in sales revenue for this company- however after 7 years and gradual economic decline and a non-negotiated payscale change incomes drastically were reduced. Quality of life declined dramatically- If you spoke out about the issue you'd be speaking with management sometimes on a daily or weekly basis- They take advantage of people- When targets were not achieved and morale was completely low- upper management district level management with human resource management would stage town hall meetings and create plans to improve there business which likely results in termination of employment for choice staff they feel dont fit there mystified vision of success. Needless to say working hard for this company means very little, your numbers maybe be amazing however those percentages that you've pushed for at the end of the day will not prevent you from being removed from the company. Restructuring / Reorganization excuses to remove you of your job- at the end of the day if you become more intelligent than your superior officers (management) you no longer are required- unfortunatly
  
  The reason i post this message is to inform the youth that may be finished high school- do not get lured by this company- they will use your energy and youthfulness for years and then put you out on the street without a care for you. My recommendation if your reading my message seek education and get ahead before you waste 5-10 years of your life that you cannot get back. • Worked in the Warehouse 9200 Airport Rd, Brampton, ON
  
  The slavery doesn't end here even with such big company. Electronic Product Tester with 1 year at least technical skills needed. you get paid almost minimum wage with an average 0.15cent increase on a yearly basis after shitty performance review. you need to work hard and fast. they put you sometime in receiving when you have to classify all returns from the their stores. furnitures and heavy lifting microwaves, etc.. although your title is electronic tester. they hire temporary from Sep to Mar then they kick everyone out leaving 2 -3 with same shitty pay. The company like others is taking advantage of the international students who recently graduated in IT or telecom field and seeking Canadian residency by getting job relevant to the field. Other PRs and Citizens are getting the hit with the low pay. If you still interested to get the job never talk about having Union with the company as you will be fired right away. However, the discount and deals as BB employee is great and you get EPP deals from time to time. • Worked at Red Deer store, horrible place to work. full of favoritism, lots of secret things going on that average employee does not know about. WORST OF ALL the reduce your part time hours at two 4 hour shifts a week. No way to pay your mortgage/rent buy groceries. • Temporary employment is suitable from this employer. High turnover in retail generally. favoritism is high. Training is done online. Stress levels are high with high level of turnover leaving new employees, and ratio of employees to customers. Part time staff can work more then full time staff and receive less benefits. Would not recommend to a friend or family member for employment. • This company doesn't care about the little guy - as you know.
  
  Taking Best Buy Canada to Vancouver Small Claims Court for breach of contract. Easy win. Good thing I have that contract - which they breached like it was nothing.
  
  I'll reach out to the Media and best Buy vendors. I know you don't care about the little guy Best Buy, but I do know you care about your relationships with your vendors!

• The phrase "do more with less" describes this company perfectly.
  
  It doesn't matter whether you're a temp employee or a supervisor. Everyone gets knocked down at one point or another while working here. Favoritism, long hours, no incentives, a culture of mistrust and a weird drive to cut as many corners as possible make this one an unenjoyable place to work for.
  
  Unless you kiss up to the right people, you're expendable. Forget about "possibility for permanent hire". You're lucky if you're not a stressed-out mess by the end of it.
  
  I worked in the product process division. There is no loyalty. You can be canned at the drop of a hat. The supervisors are either clueless or narcissistic. Be prepared for petty squabbling and drama between employees.
  
  The laziest ones get just as many shifts (if not more) than the people busting their neck to get the job done, and management ignores their infractions simply because they've been there longer. Some of the supervisors get just as much flak as temps, and are forced to work up to 12 hour shifts. Best of all, the permanent employees are trained to treat the temps like second-class citizens, referring to them as "those people".
  
  It's a culture of fear and entitlement. The people from upper management are clueless, and will often give you confusing and contradictory orders. The associates are forced to push TV packages and Geek Squad services, despite it being a non-commission earning model. People on night shift are locked in until morning due to the fear that the employees might steal something, but they're too cheap to keep a night guard on staff at the front door.
  
  I certainly had some good moments here, but the stress is just not worth it. Avoid this like the plague if you want employment.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Don't plan to be there for a longtime. Great name to have on your resume as someone that wants to start their career or add a better name on their resume. If you're a seasoned professional thesis NOT the place to be. Salaries are a joke and very unfair. Great staff discount. Amazing people that work their. Very narrow minded leadership. • Best buy is by far the worst retail organization I have worked for. No commission is an excuse for the company to keep profits to them self. If you're thinking of applying expect about $12 part time and about $13.80 for full time positions with no commission or bonus for anything you sell including warranties. Promotions are given without justification. A mobile manager was promoted with out applying while several other staff interviewed. Other people are promoted internally without giving other people given a chance to apply. They will use you and replace you if you question anything or do not comply with tier brainwashing. If you a teenager looking for work it's a good stepping stone but if you are looking for a serious full time job the don't waste your time. This company is all about profit and improving shareholder profits. • Unless you want a short term position [regardless of you getting hirded seasonal/part/full time], don't bank on staying for longer than a year.
  
  Worked in the warehouse for just under a year and a half. Initially it's great, until your GM is an obvious alcoholic, makes rotten/sexist comments about female employees, yet is in a position to fight/denounce any accusations as well as put a halt to any in-store complaints. The next GM found it perfectly acceptable to allow one of his managers to single out female workers and reduce them to tears, all the while claiming "it's his job to enforce company policy". I was fired because I kept raising issue with this, and eventually they dug up enough on me.
  I would strongly suggest to anyone to avoid working for this business, their CEO pulls down 200+ mil a year, your store manager is raking in 125k+ or more, your managers are getting 50-75k compared to your minimum wage.
  Beyond that, their layoffs and business practises are heartless, with the 2013 layoffs being entirely unannounced, employees showing up for work at a locked store. Couple this with two weeks prior, the CEO releasing a company wide interview with him assuring everyone that their jobs/stores and positions are safe, the media is entirely wrong on BBY's future business prospects.
  I haven't even brought up the sort of corworkers I had, and putting up with racist comments (from regular cashiers all the way to managers and GM) was commonplace. Even being told I'm probably "too sensitive" when one particular comment finally got a rise out of me.
  They talk a big talk about their corporate culture and the BestBuy "family". If this were how my family behaved and treated one another, I'd have absolutely nothing to do them.
  If I could give myself advice upon getting hired, it would be "keep on the job search, this isn't the sort of place you want to be."   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Absolutely terrible workplace. I worked at their Distribution and Service Warehouse in Brampton. The workload was TOO INTENSE. A minimum of 15 cell phones/iphones/tablets to be repaired, and a minimum of 15 notebooks/desktops/pcs. Plus VERY detailed, mind-numbing, eyestraining specifics to be written down. Stress is TOO HIGH for $13.25/hour. Your mistakes will be flagged, logged, bashed, highlighted, and stressed again & again.
  
  The bulk of the workers and team leads are Indian, so expect discrimination, alienation, marginalization, and severe sabotage of your work if you have mistakenly tried to prove yourself smarter than them. • Best buy is the worst company to work for. They want all of their employees to be yes men... They constantly make decisions that do not benefit the company but because these people are managers, they're always right.
  We may not be on commission, but the stress put on us to sell is toooo much!!!!! I work in the mobile department and even though we are not on commission but the smaller mall stores are, and it's not any easier. We have to know about all products in the store from tv's to computers.. I have to write down who I talked to and if they bought something. I then have to fill out another form that has all the info about the customer and what we talked about when they came in. All this is just so see if we help customers and then gets tossed every month.
  
  I got in trouble for being too honest on an employee viewpoint survey intent on seeing how things are from the employees eyes. Our General manager told my manager that "this cannot happen again, you need to coach them on what to say.". They always try to tell us to care for customers and the truth is they only care for the stolen commission from the everyday workers pockets into the management pockets. Half the time they tell people like me, part-timers, full-timers, ect to do their work for them, while they just walk around or go hang out in the SDR.
  
  The store managers are power hungry people that think it's a dictatorship and this is their country. Employees are treated like dirt. If you don't literally do everything you're told, you wil not only loose the job, but look and feel like doodoo doing it...
  
  Theres no money in the budgets to clean our fans and air vents, instead the layers of dirt and grime continue to build up. We can't even controll the temperature in the store, it's done off site in the U.S. Best buy is full of greedy managers and no one cares, you speak up, follow the rules, and then eventually you will loose your job. I was told by a manager they didn't like my because of my religion, surely enough, nothing was done but I was threatened to be fired if I didn't like it. My many many years of loyalty and constant surpassing of budgets and capabilities, means nothing if you do not just put your head down and agree to everything. It's not even just the store managers, area or district managers are the worst. They come around just to stirr the pot and
  Tick everyone off. They collect the fattest pay checks just to come around and tell your your numbers are not good enough, meanwhile they couldn't sell a phone to save their lives, they don't even know how to use the systems at work (beast, epos, oracle, e-grace). For a company not doing so well, they sure know how to waste millions on useless wages. The ideas these people come out with to increase sales are very simple "shove a 3 year contract down people's throat. O they have no money? We have bestbuy cards they can finance." the problem is they're thinking short term not long term, with repeat purchases from people.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Worked at a BB mobile store and quit after 3 weeks on the job. Very Stressful and didnt feel at all prepared for the job after the so called 2 weeks of training that i received. Training was doing a bunch of computer quizzes that were not helpful. Also manager was very unprofessional and extremely rude when i politely told him the job was not for me. • I worked for best buy for about 2 and a half years. I started out as a product process specialist for the city 4 months, transferred to operations and then he last position was inventory, but then in February 2011, the company decided to merge product processing, inventory and loss prevention together, then after I jut hated my job cause I had basically 3 job responsabilities that day and felt like a slap in the face. Working operations was so much better that Ben though I was a part timer, I worked hard and eventually covered my supervisors shifts.
  
  I left mostly because I didn't like that I was told what to do, then halfways through the task I would have to cover lp and at the end of my shift I would get into trouble if I did not get it done. Then at one of my performance reviews that stated that, the. Told me that I should trust my decisions on my own. The thing is, when I would make my own decisions, the full timers would tell me that I have to do it their way and it would take longer.
  
  Manager would also refuse to give me days off for school, appointments, and even when my grandfather passed away I called her that day to tell them I could not come the next day. My manager told me I had to come to work still because I was the only able to cover lp for someone's break. It was ridiculous how that manager also suggested that I quit and that I would be suitable for a desk job because I have scolliosis, twice that manager told me whenever I suggested something or needed to talk.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• I worked for this company for a while. Great staff discount on purchases, loved the job I did just not the work environment. I was in Operations. Praticay impossible to book any time off around christmas... Back to school time...I have seen some people that were fantastic at what they were doing getting thrown in other departments simply because the managers didnt like them or because they were scared for their own jobs. Training was all online... Then they course crash train you into something and expect you to know everything. First workplace were I have seen/heard some backstabbing happen ALL THE TIME. Poeple are quiting on a regular basis. Would not suggest this employer to anyone, unless you're not planning on staying a long time. They say they value team work but that's not how it feels after a couple months in. Management only cares about numbers and getting bonuses.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• After having worked for Best Buy for just about 2 years now I can honestly say that although there are problems, that comes with the territory. Retail is about as ruthless as it gets. I personally have witnessed personal and work related issues within the teams, high turnover and pressure to sell. That's retail! I live knowing that this isn't forever and I will work for several companies if retail is my chosen career. As for wages, I make well above minimum wage, I have a retirement plan and amazing benefits. It's a fun place to work if you like competitive selling and teamwork. I have no intention of leaving any time soon and I've accepted that the turnover is really high. It's a fact of retail life and it won't change. • The company offers a good pay for what you do. Once you climb the ladder a little (higher then part time) benefits are also quite good for this work type. The only real complaint comes with the size of the company, change is slow and there are a lot of rules. But all in all they encourage fun, learning and advancement. There is always a position open due to company size. • After working for this company for over 4 years, I feel perfectly qualified to say that working for this company will lead you down the path of pure unhappiness, at least in Manitoba, specifically on St. James. Management has all but forgotten common sense, everyone cares more about themselves than bettering the company as a whole, the decision making will drive you up the wall and drive you to the brink of insanity and people are put in positions they definitely do NOT qualify to be in. There is one redeeming quality and that's the employee discount. But after dealing with all the unbelievable crap, even that won't convince you to stay. • My work environment was very sexist. As the only female in my department, I was always asked to do the cleaning while the men dealt with customers or priced items. Some of the other female employees informed me of sexual activities involving the manager, though I never encountered this. The men seemed to have a good rapport with eachother, so maybe it is just a bad environment for women. The shifts they give you are lousy, many 4 hour and 45 minute shifts (to avoid giving employees a break). On big sale days, it is expected that you work 12 hours shifts or longer. Often I would work till 11pm, then have a 6am shift the next day. I would work random tiny shifts everyday, not allowing me the time/regularity to get another job. Once, after being asked to clean (on my hands and knees), they asked me to go home and change, then return to work (when it was a 2 hour shift!). The training is lousy and doesn't prepare you for anything, so expect to teach yourself everything. For my training, we watched videos about the company history, set up computer passwords and were given a stuffed toy. Maybe if you are a man, it is better (or a woman in the traditional cashier position). It wasn't worth the stress for lousy minimum wage and a discount.   read complete rating Hide complete rating
