• The worst employer I ever worked for. It was a retail branch and horrible experience. No training, no proper communication, no structured plan to actually help and improve the performance of the employee. Everything is bluff. Technical issues every day and when you have an unsupportive BM it's even more difficult. It was my first full time job after graduation and terrible experience but nevertheless I learnt a lot especially how to be political, diplomatic and some personal life lessons. Honestly depends on the people you are directly working under. If you have good people, you grow, if you have shitty people, you are mentally tired and you eventually quit. I quit my job in literally 2 months. But I believe this built my resistance. As a new grad, there were a lot of things I needed to learn as well especially when you enter a corporate which I thank it taught me. I am working in a lending company in business development and have sales targets. I am doing fine and have some of the best team members and management. There are better places, companies and people out there. Please don't ruin your mental health. • The pay was terrible, particularly considering the kind of work that I did; meanwhile, during the pandemic, when everyone had been feeling economic despair and the horrible crunch of inflation, they have increased user fees and the multimillionaire CEO had his pay increased from $14.9-million in total compensation, up from $11.1-million a year earlier. His $3.38-million bonus was up from $2.39-million in the prior year, and stock and option awards of $8.30-million were up from $5.87-million. Meanwhile, despite me in theory being an engineer, my pay was not enough to keep up with inflation. I was stuck in the same low-paying position for years with a high workload and everyone demanding my attention all of the time. And no free coffee in my office! • I’ve been in the financial services industry since 1987. My last day at BMO was today Sept 2, 2022. This is the worst place I’ve ever worked. There is no life work-balance, no paid overtime, no time in lieu. They will take your skill set and zap it dry. The IT is terrible- computer issues every day and every hour

• By far the worst work environment I have ever worked at. I stayed for exactly 9 months at the call center. A lot of micro management and push on sales. Management has no degree or actual qualifications other than staying there long enough because everybody else wants to leave. The turnover rate is 75% go figure.
  They ask for feedback but when you give them the feedback, they WILL use it to fire you and belittle any of your concerns just to keep their scorecard and bonus high. Stay away from BMO literally any other place would be better than this hell hole.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• One of the WORST companies I have ever worked for. I have been working for BMO for the past 2 years and it’s been horrible. The company does not provide adequate training, which is quite concerning they allow employees into client files when they have no idea what they are doing. Management will ask you to lie to your team on their behalf. The management team overworks their teams and have outrageous expectations.
  
  BMO is an awful financial institution and personally, I would not have my endeavours going through this bank, especially when the people “helping” you have not been trained adequately to do so.
  
  Additionally, BMO does not abide by labour standards and laws. They will withhold pay for extended periods of time. The tools and resources provided are less than ideal, which add more stress and work for the employees.
  
  Overall, it is shocking people trust BMO as their FI. It’s managed terribly and the employees are treated unfairly.

• I have no ground to judge the top management, but if you hold a part time position at the Windsor local branch, watch out. The culture here sets up a beginner to fail. The online training provides directions that contradict their daily practice, but you get the blame if you follow the training. They expect you to recognize every single customer coming to the door. They are pushy in selling their financial services. But if the position only offers 10-12 hours per week, how can you be expected to meet all customers, let alone remember them? If you ask for assistance, the manager will judge and bluff, or make inappropriate criticism at a personal level. If you ask for feedback on how to improve, the manger will never reply. It’s ironic to find on the company’s website that they “champion employees” by “offering a workplace that supports and welcomes individuals from many diverse communities and provides opportunities for career and personal fulfillment.” The part timers are treated worse than cattle. They are used then dumped. Can’t speak for other branches, but if you work here part time, don’t expect support or respect because there is none. I am surprised that the company lets this toxic management style bear its name. • Do not ever become a Commercial Analyst for BMO. You will work 70 hours a week just to reach your target. You will have no work-life balance. You will be stressed to the point that you will get sick.The policies and procedures are chaotic and irrational. The system, Commercial Connect is the worst system compared to other big 4 banks. You will not learn to do proper credit analysis because they look at the number of application rather than the quality of analysis. Their coaching is really about you being threatened if you do not meet your numbers. You as an analyst will be blamed for anything and everything by the Commercial Account Managers, their VPs, your bosses and their bosses, and even Credit Department and their bosses.
  
  If you plan to accept a job offer from BMO Commercial Banking as a Commercial Analyst, make sure you take advantage of the time you are being trained. Prepare for an early exit before they give you your so called limits.

• BMO-Treasury & payments Solutions team is the worse area to work for. I worked for over 24 years in the banking industries and within this area you finds the most unprofessional executives with no management & personal skills, they raise their voice to their employees as they please. One of the executive will raise her voice to her direct reports that people that seat around her area will leave their desk as they felt bad for them. This executive doesn't have any manners or management training; all management should have some kind of background training and continue with their learning to ensure that they have the management training & exposure in small areas before they have a big team to manage; he have so many courses online and at our institute of learning that there is no excuse to take the proper training required for each role.
  No because we are managers we have the power to treat employees as animals, and no to respect them, there is no reason for a manager to raised their voice to one of their employees even if a mistake was done no everyone is perfect we are all humans and we all made mistakes. Treat people as you would like to be treat it, remember you need to be nice to everyone as you don't know what will happen in the future people move around the bank to different location and you will not know who your manager may be, it doesn't take much to be respectful to everyone that is one thing everyone needs t learn to be successful.
  
  Another issue we experience at BMO is that they take advantage of their employees by no paying them their overtime hours they know employees are working long hours and they don't do nothing about it, the amount of work assigned to each of their employees is massive that is impossible to complete in the 7.5 hours that we get paid and the executives and the Senior executives are aware of this and nothing is done to rectified these big issues.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• BMO is worst company to work. They hire for FULL-TIME position and lay off in 2 years once their project is completed saying employee became too expensive for the company to accommodate to maintain the project that was created by that employee ( could have hired under contract position instead). After hiring employee has 6 months of probation (without benefits )compared to TD where it is 3 months. Employee is eligible for Pension benefits plan after 2 years and then they are asked to leave. They dont have yearly increment system either. Bonus is minimal. Make you work hours during project deployments and weekends. Have worked until 3 am at times at BMO uptown locations. Family suffers because of BMO work stress after hours. Carried pagers 2 weeks in a month, worked multiple hours during issues. No good process to pass over knowledge, relied on single hand worker for months. Worst management, managers are bossing around. No work hour flexibility. • I worked for BMO for 8 years as a Financial Planner, but left in the fall of 2015. Incompetent management, stressed out employees, old and dirty branches and a toxic employee environment make this an institution to stay away from. In my role, the company had moved away from caring about planning and was really only concerned about how many products you sell. My last manager, who was in charge of auditing my client financial plans, admitted he knew nothing about planning or the software we used, so he would be relying on me to tell him what I had done. Good grief, some audit.
  
  Further, both the company and many of the planners engage in practices that are at least shady, if not full-on unethical.
  
  If you care at all about clients, the quality of your work, or your work environment - steer clear. This is not the place for you.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• I have worked at BMO for 6 years now. When I worked for BMO from 2010-2015 I absolutely loved my job. We started off with 6 employees when I first started working for this company in 2010. There was 5 full time and 1 part time. When 2015 started rolling around we were cut 3 positions and down to 4 full time staff. Things were a bit more stressful but definitely still manageable. Fast forward till today (because of banking together) online, phones, atm they think we don't have a heavy traffic flow anymore so they cut us down to 2 FULL TIME!!!!! 2 full time and 1 casual who is in from 11 am till 3 pm. That is it!!!!!!!
  
  Let me tell you there is absolutely no way on Earth 2 and a quarter teller is enough. On average me and my coworker are doing between 200-300 transactions every day even on slow days now. I am the commercial teller. I do everything from, order cash, ship cash, coin orders, 054 report, tasks and any mortgage payouts or wires that come through from law firms. Believe me there is not enough hours in a day to get this done with just one other teller in the morning.
  
  I have complained to management on many occasions saying we are extremely stressed out, and customers are upset as well. The wait time especially on month end for some customers can be 15 to 20 minutes. Of course management doesn't care and says basically that's to damn bad. Funny because management never helps on cash outside of maybe 10 minutes a day.
  
  BMO for years was my favorite employee but now... it's nothing but massive stress and chaos trying to get through a slow day let alone a busy end of the month day.
  
  Do yourself a favor and stay far away from BMO. They are cutting staff and it's only getting wrose! !!!

• I generally don't write reviews but I feel like this is not an accurate representation of BMO. For the record, I stumbled upon this site as I was researching what others thought of my company.
  
  Let's start off by saying a lot of the reviewers here work in retail (the physical branch). These reviewers are generally on the lower scale of the payroll. (This is not meant to be an insult just facts.)
  
  I work on the commercial side of BMO. This is the best work environment. Managers are supportive and help with deals. There are efficient team meetings to keep everyone on the same page. There is a fantastic work/life balance! My kid is in hospital for two weeks and I didn't have to explain myself or worry about anything. Managers don't clock you in or care if you are 1 hour late. All they really care about is getting the work done. (Yes, the work is reasonable and can be done in the time allotted). One of the best things too is that the office doesn't encourage gossip. Everyone is focused on work and happily does so. BMO also has a great training facility in Toronto. Everyone gets sent there to learn more.
  
  As for pay, the pay is great. My first year I received raise 4% plus inflation and a substantial bonus. From speaking with my colleagues, if you surpass sales goals, bonuses are in the five to six digit range. Yes, it's true!
  
  I have no complaints about BMO. I have been working there for 4 years and don't plan to leave. If you have a job offer from BMO, please consider taking it! I love love love this company.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• I have been working at BMO for over a year at the call center and I can say that it promotes intimidation and harassment. The managers are incompetent, aggressive and constantly raise their voices at employees. There is no real advancement in the company as they only promote other positions in the call center. They often find reasons to harass you and tell you that you are not doing your job well, even when you are. All they care about is sales and pushing products to customers that customers don't even want or need, yet they say they are " the bank that defines great customer experience". Even customers feel harassed. They are not flexible at all for students. If you need a day off, they will try to make you feel bad about it even if the reason is legitimate. Being a sheep, following their orders blindly, not questioning their orders and ways of doing is the only way to succeed in this company (again you can get promoted only within the call center). They don't want to hear your personal opinion. Harassement also comes from higher levels of management. If you call HR to complain about a problem you may have, HR will try to blame it on you instead of helping you and listening to you. It pushes me to believe that at all levels in the company and in all the departments harassment is promoted. I do not recommend this company to anyone as I havent met one happy person who likes their job at bmo. Everyone seems scared of management in general. Bmo is also incredibly understaffed, customers often wait 5,10,20 minutes before talking to a representative and customers will put all their frustration on you, the customer service rep. • The abuse and harassment I experienced at bmo really traumatized me. The managers treat the employees with absolutely NO respect. I worked at the call centre for 1 whole year. The managers (very uneducated people with no social skills) talk down to the employees and harass them in small conference rooms to intimidate them. I wish I had a recording device to show the world how Inhumane these people actually are. It truly is sad and disgusting. Nobody I worked with was happy. Everybody was miserable. To get ahead in this company you need to be fake and suck up. Stay if you need money desperately. If not find yourself an actual job not an abusive negative toxic environment like bmo. • I saw a lot of negative comment here, to the point where I want to jump out and say something. BMO is a good company.
  
  I can't say BMO is the best company to work for, but just as the same as lots of other companies, this is not a easy job. Yes, it has sales target, Yes, you have to deal with difficult customers, and Yes, it is not always easy to do your jobs because the industry is competitive and management always want sales from you.
  
  But what kind of banking industry jobs are not like this? You want to be successful, then you have to bear more stress than others. you want to be successful, then you need to meet your sales target, is that simple. I am a student, I have been in BMO as a teller for 1 year and a half now. To be honest, i have those days that managers come after me for my sales revenue, and days that are sad because some extremely difficult customers with their mean words. SO WHAT? I want to be successful in this industry, i have to learn to deal with people and survive from the stress. Lots of people in the comment section just keep complaining and complaining and say they have to leave the company because of stress and they cannot meet the sales target. Sad to say this, those are losers, BMO is better off without them.
  
  In my first 3 months with BMO, I did not make any sales revenue. I am a part time, I am still in university, I knew nothing about banking. But i have two greatest managers of all time, who spend their time sit down with me and train me and tell me how to talk to customers. They will patiently tell me all the products information I need to know, tell me all the pros and cons and answer all of my questions. They have never been mean to me, or say they are too busy for me. They always make time for me. Yes sometimes they push me and ask me for sales, but I am getting better and better at it and it is the 2nd place in our branch. I know how to sell now, I know how to talk to difficult customers now, all of these i have to thank my manager for.
  
  So I love BMO. I didn't feel the need to write down something until i saw all those mean comments about how bad BMO is. Now, BMO changes every single day. It starts to shut down score card so they can take some pressure off for us, it asks managers to do more training for us so we know what we are doing. This is a company that has been standing strongly years after years, and it will still be.
  
  In my branch, there are people who work for BMO in the past 30 years, 8 years, and 13 years. Except part time who has high turnover, the full timer always have relationship with BMO more than five years. Those people enjoy working for BMO so they don't feel the need to come online and say something, but the people who can't survive in BMO feel the need to make their complain visible online, shame on you.

• Thanks all for your comments !! I am currently comparing offers from 3 banks, BMO being one of them. A colleague of mine suggested I check out this site and I have to say its an eye opener. • I would only say one thing. FSM role is the most underpaid, the most ridiculous role in the whole retail banking. Ask the managers to be the FSM's for 1 day and they would know. Not that i couldn't perform. Its just that you cannot make them satisfied. Targets, Revenue, Walk-up lines, service requests, tasks, call hours. You feel like you work in a call centre.
