• I was with them for many years. At that time the work was steady and was dispatched very regularly. The jobs were smaller, work was steady, the people got along great. Workers were fairly busy. Then things took off and a plethora of hiring happened. In my position, I was driving lots and making money.then they start hiring lots of new drivers.you are partnered up and train new guys. All is great. Then they give trucks to new guys and the new guys are sent out on jobs while the senior drivers are left sitting at the base with no work.
  The company doesn't give a squirter if you make money. The dispatcher feed the jobs to the special pals and you sit in the yard polishing trucks.
  They did have an awesome benefit plan!
  They developed a mentor program that was simply stupid. Instead of giving you an extra dollar or 2 per hour to mentor,they thought they might give out badges, crests and stuff. Don'the patronize me, just pay me an extra 1 to 3 dollars per hour to train and mentor. Don't be stupid.
  The main players in the office are millionairestill and are comfortable. The staff is expendable.
  They put people in bad position on jobs. They have people doing things they are not trained or certified to do and when the untrained person screws up they then get called to the office where they get written up and punished for screwing up.
  The person that forced them into that position gets no punishment.
  Canyon is like many other oil companies. Keep your head up and watch your back and you may do okay. Every day is a new day. It might be good or it might end up being a whole bunch worse.
  Keep in mind that other similar companies also have their issues.

• I worked at this place as a dedicated employee for a number of years . They (management)absolutely don't give a crap about their employees . I mentioned working behind closed valves was bs and got told it was my job and to shut up and do it or leave . Little did I know it was actually illegal. Canyon sells out safety in order to retain customers. safety is downtime downtime is money. When bringing concerns to management after an iron failure was told basically to adapt or quit. They Nickle and dime employees and there is so much two faced immature bull that goes on behind the scenes within this establishment it's ridiculous. Dispatchers playing God with crews so much conspiring against each other this place was great at one point and has dramatically gone down hill . The establishment constantly reeking fear over the employees threatening them with their jobs . All the while forgetting who made the the company what it is today ...the guys in the dirt day in night out . Alot of doping goes on with in this company if they had a random piss test they would have to close the doors .although this place has gone to the dogs I have to thank them for making showing me that there is more to life than fracin with canyon . • First off, I am NOT in management with Canyon. I have worked my way up through the ranks from starting on an N2 bulker 8 years ago to where I am now with the company. I am in the office and have a very good overview on what happens here. I came from out of province and didn't know anyone here to begin with. i have read all the comments pertaining to Canyon and can comment on almost all of them. My previous employer was twice the work for a little more than half the pay, AND I was happy to do it. If i wasn't there was more than a few people that would've. For starters, you have to fit in. Also you have to get up in the morning and show up for work(yes it has to be said. When I was told this during orientation I laughed because I thought I was on candit camera). I have been out of the field for more than 3 years but when i was there was nobody allowed around pumps or high pressure lines. I was a crew cabber and I did keep workers away the best I could. other than that it has grown incredibly fast. We have seen a large turn around but you have to remember there are always 2 sides to every story. It is what you make of it. there is no shortage of jobs here in Alberta and the downside being that we are dealing with the shallow end of the gene pool when it comes to some workers. Canyon is mostly solid people that care and work hard but there is the percentage that should be fired and their parents slapped for not raising their kids properly. I can guarantee that a good percentage of these same people wouldn't last a day for some of the employers that I have worked for. There are lots of choices when it comes to jobs in this provence so things will not change for the better soon. Another recession like what happened in 2009 would definately cull the heard. I definitely don't want to see that again by no means. That being said there was really good deals on Kijiji for those of us that kept our jobs.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

  Pretty unsafe to work for I would say. They have people hang out by the pressurized lines constantly to "check on things". Bad calls by supervisors, washing out pumps when it could be easily preventable. Doing head maintenance while still pumping by just isolating the broken pump with a valve (people working on a head with the pump still connected to a 60+ mpa line is normal?!?!?!? Get out.) Almost 10 years oilfield experience, worked there only a few weeks and saw enough to make me worry for the safety of the employees that were left there.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Just left N2 bulk division in GP after less then a year. Poorly run company 800 hired in one year 580 quit within same year?? Manager in our division was a pushover his buddy n2 driver broke company rules all the time as well twice using racial slurs in front of us, We complained to manager and the promote him to pump operator which is higher pay?? • I just left the bulk division after after a year, they blow all kinds of smoke about the money your going to make then blame the economy while still blowing the same smoke to the next group of suckers. There is little opportunity for advancement once you're there the seem to have an unofficial policy to promote from outside the company if you're in a high demand job. They are famous for "adjusting" your time sheet if they think you're making to much money. This is a great place to come get some experience if you have just got your class one and cant get a job, just dont expect this to be one of those companies that you stay with, picture it as they are always hiring and its great place to get that oil patch experience then go get a real paying job.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• I find the company itself is good but it is being drug down by alot of incompitent

• They don't care at all about the employee's. They Hired me for one thing after I left another job to work with Canyon then tried to force me into the position I left at the first job for less pay. They also promise you new equipment then throw you in the oldest piece in the yard. For a company that needs workers. It's unbelievable they treat people like dirt. • I have been at Canyon for a while now and just because your employer does not coddle your nut pouch or tuck you in at night does not make them bad employers. There are reasons a company does what it does. It takes real men to work in the patch and if you are on your 5th or 6th company, chances are its not the employers. Chase the money and the greener grass but loyalty goes along way when it gets slow out there, and it will get slow you can count on it. This company grew from 200 to upwards of 800 people in 3 years so expect some growing pains. It is not a perfect place, but by far not the worst.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Brutal place to work. Unless you like getting talked down to, yelled at and degraded by supervisors. Pay is one of the lowest in the industry, and they nickle and dime you. They make every excuse to not have to pay you everything you worked to earn. They work you way beyond the legal maximums and then refuse to pay you for the extra hours because it provides a paper trail that would put them in violation of the law. • I worked at Canyon for two and a half years. There are many good people who work there, however, there is an "Old boy's club" as well. This past summer there have been many who have been targeted and "fired", while the rest of us looked at each other and asked, "why? He was a good worker and easy to get along with!". When the story unravelled, it usually wound up being because this individual "asked questions, challended the status quo, and took initiative" (part of the core values) which is a threat to some who are in positions to fire, and would like to remain there.
  
  The company's core values are preached quite a lot, and they are good, but there are many in field supervisory, and middle management who not only not follow them, but mock them.
  
  1. Integrity - Finding reasons to fire people because they are a threat to your 'old boy's club' is not integrity.
  
  2. Relationships - Treating people with dignity and respect. This core value is broken all the time. I personally have been treated poorly, and have watched others being demoralized and being spoken down to by field coordinators and middle managers simply because of ego. When I personally tried to point out that this was unacceptable, I was informally told that I was being a shit disturber, and was written up a short while later for being based on some other issue that was found to be suitable (we all make mistakes, all a person has to do is look close enough to find them).
  
  3. Think Creatively, Take the initiative, Be persistent, Challenge the status quo... all very good goals, however, this is actually discouraged. When I personally tried to apply these core values to my work at Canyon, I was rewarded with meetings in the manager's office where I was told not to think, just work, don't try to change things. When I pointed out problem areas with safety that could be easily fixed, or with areas where more training could be used to help workers operate more efficiently, I was put on the hit list for those who didn't keep quiet and just do what they were told. Eventually, I too was let go last August based on an exaggerated claim that looks good on paper, and appeared to be a clean unquestionable dismissal. Certain individuals are good at manipulating things to appear as though their actions against an employee were justified and correct, while in truth, they were slimy and dirty. It helps to have a group (The old boy's club) who you can draw upon for "statements" for an "investigation" to put together enough twisted, warped, and out of balance "evidence" to support the firing.
  
  If the CEO of the company, whom I have personally met, conversed with personally (and by email), and whom I do believe in, were to open his eyes and see that there are certain individuals in management within the company who are stiffling what could be a great place to work, and make some strategic changes, Canyon does have a lot of potential. If these changes were made, I would work there again. There are some who can be trained with the management courses that Canyon puts on to be better managers, but there are some who simply need to be removed.
  
  The company needs to break up the old boy's club in the frac division on up to middle management, and remove the bad apples before they ruin the company as a whole. It only takes a few bad apples to cause the whole barrel to spoil. The individuals in this old boy's club do what they wish, and stick up for each other if any questions arise. If this was broken up, the misdeeds of these people would not be covered up and twisted so sucessfully to appear as though the actions were in the best interests of the company.
  
  It will be difficult for the top dog to pinpoint and weed out these ones as the evaluations that are done, are done by others within this old boy's club... and of course no red flags are put up due to the fact that they are all covering for each other.

• I work for this company but what they say isn't what they do and they don't give a dam about ure family life . It's bums on seats I'm afraid and I'm looking to leave asap and move to better company. They made lots of promises but alas didn't, keep them . Would I recommend them to a friend. NO . But I have mortgage to pay so will sit it out for a while. • I worked for Canyon for a while and I can say this is the worst company I have ever worked for.There is no room for growth, I could not belive how management behaved or acted and how was and is no care for employees. They always talk about a work life balance, but there is non of that unless you fight for it. Management does not know how to management and communication is terrible. Canyon sadly does not seem know how to keep their employees happy. I would never refer anybody to this place unless I truly disliked them. There are so many positive companies to work for and this unfortunately is not one of them.

• Just like every other service companies out there, there are some scumbug co-workers. But there also alot of really great guys to work with. I have alot of fun at work, but there are a few I tread lightly around, and watch what I say around them. The potential for advancement currently is incredible. We do NOT have employee numbers, and I have very few layers of management above me compared to other companies. • Good company to work for if you have these 3 qualifications:
  1) Must like animals because there is a few weasels running around
  2) Must be able to communicate with people but keep in mind that some have 2 faces so you have to know which one you are talking to
