• I thought I'd try my hand at the security industry.
  
  Wow.
  
  Garda must be one of the most unprofessional security guard companies I have ever come across.
  
  There was a gas leak I attempted to call the fire department to which I was told not to.
  
  So let me get this straight. This is a commercial building in the downtown core and you don't want me to call the fire department regarding a gas leak?
  
  The manager then tried to tell me that gas leaks aren't all that bad.
  
  I'm like are you kidding?
  
  I immediately resigned. I'm not placing my life in danger because the unprofessional Garda Manager and the property manager have this agreement where if lives are in danger and it means spending money to get it fixed you rather not.
  
  Also lazy security guards sitting around doing nothing while I was the only one doing proper rounds and checks. Including going into the underground garage at night by myself knowing very well there were drug users in the area. I asked if a security guard could accompany me while I did my rounds of the underground garage and they said no.
  
  Wow.
  
  Stay far away from Garda Security they do not care about your well being and will place your life in danger.
  
  Surprised the Ministry of Labour hasn't shut them down yet.

• Worked for Garda 2x. First at a local refinery, which was a special contract so we were pretty much left alone by the HO. Not a bad place to work and some long-time experienced guards to learn from. Went elsewhere after 2 years, then returned later and worked as daytime mobile. Awful. Horrendous. Mid-management is an absolute mess. Little support from the office. Uniforms look like they've been worn by at least 10 other guards. • Long story short: worked as a Field Supervisor in Mobile in Edmonton for 3 years.worked nights bcs days were always unavailable.that was ok.our immediate supervisor, sharon, was such a good lady.but then they ran her out.guy who took over told us that he actually did not "give a shit about mobile".i worked P5 division which was south-central.never ending alarm calls yet had to finish my run.that made me work 15-16 hours sometimes with no OT.the HR dept and safety dept were useless.as a mobile driver was in HO all the time and saw how terrible this company was run.grab assing, joking around, racist/homophobic/sexist comments about the new-hires and other staff made me sick, said by both guys and girls.
  the reason i left wasnt even because of that.apart from all that i loved the freedom of being on my own at night.but i got rear-ended during my shift (not my fault), and i had to go on modified work detail. i showed up and did paperwork but they kept hounding me to get back on the road which i could not and they were too cheap to hire a replacement temporarily in the meantime. instead, they threatened to fire me so that "your medical expense is ruining our monthly budget you lazy ass".even still i stayed on, because i was young and naive and had fun working with the guys i did. anyways, i finally HAD to quit when they told me that i would be responsible to pay for the WHOLE cost of the accident. to our company car and the other third party car, even though the police deemed him at fault for rear ending me while street racing.that was the last straw as they said they would be taking 750 off every paycheck for the next 3 years.well that did it, as they knew it would. but guess what? joke is on them! me and my gf at the time would hang out and fool around and bang in the car every night! so guess what fools?? that wasn't donair sauce on the seats!!! hahaha   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Air passenger screening in Winnipeg, check point managers are more concerned with bonuses than employee safety. General manger will not look mployees in the eye, instead pretends to check texts. • I tried to put in a grievance one time in this outfit and the union rep told me not to do that because basically they don't deliver the grievances and I shouldn't be writing grievances. I said that I would deliver it myself in person and they threaten me not to do it or ELSE. What kind of union which cost me an arm and a leg do that the union is there to protect you not shit on you especially in an outfit such as this one. • The new mgt simply does not care about us and the ability to move up. promotion from within? whats that? Great people are ignored. I finally had enough of the crap scheduling, my cheque was never accurate, always shorted and poor mgt.

• I think one of the worse security companies in Canada. I went for welkin interview. they asked to wait for little, they are arranging someone for interview. After 2 hours, I received a call from my school, while I was talking on phone; the recruiter came and took the other guy for interview. I finished my call, again started waiting. When the interview finished, the recruiter went to his office, I asked the receptionist about my interview, she said, the recruiter knows that you are here, he will come out. I waited for next 30 minutes and went to the receptionist and asked, Miss when i came for job, i told you that i have a class in the evening but you promised that you will arrange someone for me. now when the recruiter is free and he knows that I am waiting for interview, can you please request him to take my interview? She said yes he will come out wait for while. • garda in montreal is like a bad joke.i finished my training(5days) and started as a guard for a cash transfer department(armored truck)worked for 35 days and could not take it anymore.i could not believe how agents where stresed out and underpayed.they ask you for a class 3 permit and all this permits for 15 bucks.imposible to get full time position.supervisors think they are sherifs and treat you like a garbage.menagment is out of touch with what is happening on the garage floor.i got the job with the class 3 permit delivering meat.stress free and happy.avoid garda at any cost even if it means starving to death.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Terrible company. There are rumors swirling around that they are trying to make everyone part time so they don't have to give full benefits as well as being able to schedule staff specific shifts during certain hours of the day which is why they've hired more and more part timers to fill in the gaps. I'm astonished as to why Catsa would award garda another contract. • One major economic justification for security personnel is that insurance companies (particularly fire insurance carriers) will give substantial rate discounts to sites which have a 24-hour presence. For a high risk or high value property, the discount can often exceed the money being spent on its security program. Discounts are offered because having security on site increases the odds that any fire will be noticed and reported to the local fire department before a total loss occurs. Also, the presence of security personnel (particularly in combination with effective security procedures) tends to diminish "shrinkage", theft, employee misconduct and safety rule violations, property damage, or even sabotage. SECURITY GUARDS TODAY RECEIVE POOR WAGES AND LITTLE OR NO RESPECT. A SECURITY GUARD HAS MORE RESPONSIBILITY TODAY THAN YESTERDAYS WATCHMAN COULD EVER DREAM OF. GUARDING TODAY IS NOT JUST A JOB, IT IS A CAREER CHOICE. PRIVATE CLIENTS NEED TO WAKE-UP AND HIRE IN-HOUSE SECURITY BECAUSE THE PLACEMENT AGENCIES OUT THERE TODAY ARE NOT SATISFACTORY. GUARD MORALE IS AT AN ALL TIME LOW BECAUSE THE INDUSTRY IS PAYING THE PROVIDER AND NOT THE GUARD WHO PERFORMS THE DUTIES. DON'T BE AFRAID OF CHANGE.
