• Genivar's growth has far exceeded it's managements ability to develop the business. Acquisitions meant to create new synergies and open new business areas have largely failed as area and regional managers, like petty medieval fiefdoms, jealously protect what is traditionally theirs. Meanwhile missing out on larger opportunities because of poor communication and even actively discouraging partnering with new acquisitions because we don't want to pass work (even that we are incapable of anyway) to a different business unit.
  
  Yes, we have bid on projects in our area, only to find that we are bidding against our own company from another part of the province. In many cases we have used sub-consultants rather than our own staff at other locations. all this does much to contribute to the atmosphere of general chaos, as new acquisitions are swallowed up and efficiency gets lesser.
  
  As for the working environment, the main Alberta acquisition, EXH, had a policy of cheap capital or leases in industrial areas. This has not changed with the new owners. Do not expect a professional environment outside Sherwood Park (Edmonton), Calgary or Red Deer. You will find yourself working in poorly lit converted warehouses with office furniture from the 70's still in the rotation.
  
  The company puts little more than lip service into supplemental training. Reimbursement for a conference or course is agony. When the stars do align and management agrees that training is required it is often limited to too few people or to a cheaper, less appropriate version of the same course. In field offices there is very little opportunity for advancement. Attracting talented people is nearly impossible. No one is fired, ever, but many talented people leave.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Received a call from their Internal Recruiter, after receiving my resume from a current employee. I was told that I would be a good fit and that they would get back to me within two weeks for a possbile interview. Since this time I have left voice messages and emails to the recruiter, who is so unprofessional to not even respond. Is this the type of place you want to work for. I do know the COO and have placed a call to tell him about my experience with this internal recruiter. Even if I am not a candidate, professionalism would at least respond to my inquiries telling me so, especially since I have industry experience for their firm.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Genivar was from far my worst ever experience in 30 years. Staff would be fired without reasons at anytime if having a different opinion. Workload was impossible to deal without long hours of overtime. Worst, Upper management does not have experience with large enterprise and act as if it was still a PME.. • I found that my manager was lacking management skills as well as could not speak english with our clients. The business unit for which I have worked at the office in Quebec City was lacking contracts, clients and challenges for engineers and internship students before the worldwide financial crisis started.
  
  The business unit manager was looking so closely to the profitability of its business unit that training was seen only as an expense and not as an asset. Young engineers need training and conferences expenses reimbursed. Training is a great way to retain engineers with less than 10 years experience.
  
  Genivar grows rapidly externally by acquiring approximately one smaller consulting engineering company per month. Genivar would greatly benefits if their different geographic offices that shares similar or complementary expertise would collaborate together in the future. Synergies between different offices would increase Genivar profitability. My experience is that different offices with similar business units are working in "vase clos" from each other and are not sharing information. Each manager at each office is fighting for their job and wants to prove to the Vice President of that business unit that they are the best.
  
  The physical workplace was really bad due to poor ventilation, bad sound proof offices and toilettes rooms as well as parking lot problems. Lot of offices for engineers do not have a window. The cafeteria was at least new and nice but the only problem is that it was in the basement so not much for the view and light from outside.
  
  I would not recommend Genivar to my friends but I would rather tell them to check out jobs with other similar consulting engineering companies such as SNC-Lavalin, BBA, Golder, Hatch, Kiewit, etc.

• Entreprise qui prend beaucoup d'essort depuis sont début à la bourse. Beaucoup d'acquisition et de développement. Offre des défis techniques intéressants de part la diversité des contrats chez les clients. Pas de fond de pension mais l'employeur égalise jusqu'à 2% pour investir dans des fonds. Salaire concurrentiel par contre et proportionnel à la qualité de vote travail. L'ambiance de travail et la qualité des contrats dépend vraiment du bureau dans lequel vous travailler. Les petits bureaux offrent moins de stabilité d'emplois, chomage potentiel si les contrats manquent . C'est une très bonne entreprise en début de carrière pour prendre de l'expérience.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Climat insoutenable, je pense quitter mon emploie comme bien d'autre l'on fait avant moi. Non recommandable, il ne paye même pas toute nos heures travaillées.
