• Golder Associates is a great company unfortunately due to the instability in the Oil and mining sector Golder has been engaging in a series of continuous mass layoffs.

• Golder Associates has currently cut 300 jobs as of September 2013 in Canada. Management did not provide any honest information, they were constantly telling staff that everything was fine, and that it was 'normal'. Instead, many people were let go without any kind of notice. There was an appropriate way to handle this - and they clearly did not.
  
  This is an engineering firm, so expect old-school style in internal communication, & top down management. This depends on case by case, but this is a very male-dominated, old school environment.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• I have worked in both the consulting and the corporate services sides of this company. You'd better believe that if you are not chargeable, you are the bottom of the barrel. Compensation for those not in positions that are able to be chargable is paultry at best, and you are constantly bombarded with the fact that you cost the company money. Turnover is high in larger offices.
  
  Benefits are extremely good. Only a small dental charge per month is required and almost everything else is fully covered at no cost to the employee. Even personal travel insurance is covered.
  
  There is some room for advancement, but if you are in a specialized area you'd better be willing to branch out to something else or wait out your superior to retirement to get that advancement.
  
  Smaller offices seem to have better connection between staff and the overall companys goals. Larger offices seem to have a bottom line mentality.
  
  The actual work is fast paced and you won't get bored no matter what you do. Depending on what area you work in, you might be expected to work a very large amount of overtime. Other areas are regular hours. You can move between positions in the company quite easily if you qualify to do so, so if you are unhappy in one area there is often the chance to try another position internally.

• I found the opportunities for interesting work at Golder to be amazing. Yes, there are times when it's drudgery, but a job is not a vacation. If a person is willing to work hard, works well with others, and can solve problems efficiently, then this is definitely the place to work if you are in the science and engineering field.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• I work in one of Golder's smaller offices in BC (around 60 employees) and due to the small size, optimal location, and friendly environment, it's quite an ideal place to work. Starting salary is good with annual review and chances for advancement. Benefits are fantastic, including three weeks vacation to start. If you join Golder and are unhappy in your current location, there is opportunity to transfer to a different office (the smaller offices tend to be more "friendly" and "personal" if that's what you prefer). You can also participate in the employee exchange program and explore somewhere new. Training is available throughout your career at Golder and their Help Desk is excellent. Most positions are fast-paced and high-stress, but that's to be expected with consulting. They make up for this with vacation time, coffee breaks, a daily 1hr lunch break, and the option to convert OT into extra vacation time. Overall, I give Golder 5 stars and hope to stay with them until retirement.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• All this company cares about is putting chargeable hours on your timesheet. So you must always put in every little detail on what you do on your timesheet and treat you like if you were a child. They watched every little move you make.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• If you strive on being chargeable then Golder is the place. My business division has 88% of staff as new employees in the last year all reflecting a policy to keep staffing matched to workload. No external training is offered, but Golder U, the internal training organization is available. Benefits are slim and do not include dental. In Calgary, at Golder's headquarters, there is no onsite parking and transit is a 15 min walk with no cleared pathways in the winter. With no pathways, winter commuting involves snowshoes for transit users.
  
  Golder has a clear policy to hire the skills they need to meet current contracts and those "permanent employees" are required to sign employment contracts which limit their severance rights and requires them to meet chargeability rates which are not in the control of the employees.
  
  Golder is run by principles and associates and all management functions are done by people of this rank. All other employees are not managers in the golder world.
  
  Golder does not offer employee bonus and many employees are required to work extra hours without pay. Staff over level 3 are required to work overtime without pay.
  
  The person ( associate) who signed my employment contract over a year ago has never called, or visited me at my office. This shows the TOTAL lack of interest that most associates have with the staff who run the projects.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Il n'A pas d'employeur parfait! Disons que le niveau de stress est plus qu'Élevé que la normale du fait que c'Est une entreprise contractuel! Il faut produire. Si vous n'Avez pas d'Expérience, n'Allez pas travaillé pour cet employeur, ils veulent que des gens d'expérience, il n'y a aucun ancadrement, vous devez travaillé solitairement sans aucun soutien, il n'ont pas de tratégie pour montré le travail.
  Il faut constamment justifiez son temps chargeable!
  Le seul avantage est un poste permanant pour les avantages sociaux, fond de pension.

• Je crois que Golder, comme n'importe quelle compagnie, est une organisation dont le but premier est faire de l'argent. Leur façon de congédier des employés me semble assez brusque et arbitraire.
  Malheureusement, pour les québécois qui ne sont pas de souche française, ils doivent affronter un certain racisme ou xénophobie de la part d'une partie de son personnel. Bien évidemment, il s'agit d'un racisme caché, mais racisme quand même.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Golder constantly tells employees how lucky they are to be working there, however I'm not convinced. It takes more than money and benefits to make a job enjoyable and at Golder you're little more than a number contributing to their bottom line.   read complete rating Hide complete rating
