• IHA is the most toxic of work environments. They have terrible employee retention because management is the worst. Staff go off on stress leave continually ; casuals stay for a very short time and then get out of there when they see what’s expected of them.

• Do not work for Interior Health Authority if you value your mental health. The lateral violence, as mentioned in a prior post, is horrendous. The management does nothing but turn its back on problems which further promotes a debilitating environment. The management will do anything it can to screw you if they so choose. • IHA does not care about their employees at all! constant threats of having your job contracted out and completely unrealistic demands are placed on you, no guidance or direction is given and then when things go wrong they blame the worker!! managers pry into your private life and stand there watching and listening as employees harass each other and then walk away without intervening I saw supervisors make sexual comments to other employees and then act like they were above the law....very dysfunctional place...STAY FAR AWAY!!!   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Its no secret- IHA is broke. I have worked in 3 different provinces in my young career. They need to update the main computer program thats used to look up labs, rad reports, etc as it is over 25 years old. You cant even use a mouse! I find that i waste a lot of time trying to find out things that should take seconds. Over that last 7 years i have had several different managers, I can honestly say a few are great, a few are bad. They are not given much $$ to work with, and i think that many are advocating for our patients health. However, there are some that will throw you under the bus (as stated earlier).
  Higher management needs to admit that the deficit impacts patient care and its not safe. Everyday we have so many hallway patients that the beds are PERMANENT fixtures- they have a night table, and a crappy privacy screen set up. As soon as you arrive on the unit, they poor patient is right there; bam- you're in their face. They have no privacy, even for a Dr or Nursing assessment, they cant turn off the big hall lights when they want, and dont forget the non-existant emergency equipment that should be at every bedside. We are constantly playing musical beds- "were getting a new patient that needs a regular bed- who is MOST appropriate for a hall bed?" We have to pick someone to move into the hall to make way for someone that is more sick- maybe an old Veteran that has put in too much time to be treated this way! And into their bed goes an ungreatful young person with addiction issues, needs a room b/c he's MRSA, VRE or whatever. As soon as he gets there hes complaining of back pain and wants his Dilaudid. Happens all too often.

• I have work for this company for about 6 years in two different departments. I can tell you when I first started at the first department (in a lower level position) it was awesome. All of the management was amazing and the people that I got to work with made me want to be there everyday. But now after going to school and spending all of that time and money to get a higher position, I feel like they don't let me use my skills and what they do have me doing has nothing to do with the education I have. Not only that but the management at these higher levels are horrible. We get treated like children and they wont listen to any ideas that we have that could fix many of the problems that we face everyday. There are many more things I could say about this company but most are not in good light. My honest opinion is that if you have an opportunity to work here or somewhere else, Work somewhere else.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• IHA has made changes to the management structure that have sent it reeling back into the dark ages. The managers are unaware of what goes on at the frontline, have to spend too much time looking out that those above them don't stab them in the back to make the workplace more conducive to minimal stress for the workforce, and are constantly worrying about their jobs to the point that they are reactive rather than proactive. Build a "bridge", they said at a meeting not long ago, build it to where, with what, got a plan?, got a design?, got any guidance?, got any responsibility if the "bridge" isn't completed? This is the ramblings of a new management structure that only seems to be changing things for change sake. Reorganization creates the illusion of progress while producing confusion, inefficiency and demoralization (?petronius). IHA's moral is very low, and it will take more than a stab at organization or change in management to bring it up to a point where the employees are even a little bit happy about their work, employer, and future.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Worst employer ever. I worked over 30 years in health care and I have never seen a more demoralized unhappy workforce in my life. Those who are contientious and work hard are not recognized or rewarded. The only people valued in the organization are the too numerous to count administrators that reorg the front line workers every 3-6 months so there is NO stability in anyones life. • I worked there for only a few months after grad. Went all the way there for a job that I thought perfect. Turned out it's the biggest mistake I've made in my whole life. They fired me for not having enough experience. I JUST graduated!!!! They gave me 4 months to monitor my progress. Unfortunately I wasn't 100% perfect with this one thing that they think that is most important to my position even after 4 month... but I was around 99 point something percent!!! And I was getting better at it :( Now my career is ruined. Close to 3 years after grad... still can't back to the lab. Thanks Interior Health!   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• I would never recommend working for IHA. They do not value employees and generally speaking staff morale is about as low as it gets. I have worked for several health authorities and IHA is so far the worst. • I love my job as an RN, unfortunately IHA is very lacking in their appreciation of the work that RN's perform. "Room to Grow" is a misnomer, IHA expects it's employees to work, take on more work and smile while you're being shafted. I would never recommend this employer to my family or friends. • i have worked for 2 different health authorities for the past 23 years. most people in all levels of jobs in the 2 different health authorities like their work,until the last few years..... i have seen, felt, and heard a real concious switch. there have been more cut-backs, and more cut-backs, more stress and less of a satisfaction with work. to my and other peoples dismay it does not seem that the

• I really enjoy my job and working for IHA and know others who do too. I think there is a lot of room for improvement here and in most places (as someone else said). Most people who post here with entirely negative comments are only speaking from their individual experience but it also says something about their own outlook on life I would say. I hope they made some constructive recommendations to someone at IHA who might try to use these to improve things. We all need to. Improvement is complex and not just about more money, more staff, etc...anyone working in health care needs to spend more time seeing things through the eyes of the patients.

• IH does not respect, value or support their employees. They claim to be using a team approach to management but this is lip services only and the reality is they operate on an antiquated pyramid style of management.
