  • Really tough place to be post gov't lay off. Rumours of 2nd and 3rd wave of cuts. Every park and site is different but they are all very operational thinking and every field unit is reinventing the wheel for themselves. Very little sharing and collaboration. One commonality is the distaste for national office. In my experience (being outside of Ottawa), national office staff are not very helpful, out of touch with what is going on across the country, rude communication styles (francophones writing in English with real lack of understanding of how they come across), kill ideas that aren't their own, extremely policy heavy and can't put together an action plan.

    It's really sad what is happening at Parks right now because there are so many people that truly believe in the mandate and want the organization to succeed. Hopefully, it'll get better in the future. Maybe working for a park or site would be better (smaller pool of politics), expect very little from national office, and find the small joys in working in an area that you believe in.
