• Ex-Letter Carrier Company Review
  Pros:
  Some freedom at outside delivery, average salary, okish benefits, some CUPW Union job protection (but beware some union reps might be too cosy with management), paid 12 days training period
  
  Cons:
  Greedy cheapskate big corporate head management, slow & tedious application process, high pay deductions (for pension & benefits) with no way to opt out, uncaring micromanaged corpoate culutre, unresonably high amount of workload on some days, outdated tools technology
  
  Canada POST head office has STOLEN from workers with "Salary over-payment" Recovery/clawbacks. This discourages employees from working any weekend or late overtime. Canada Post Head office has unilatterly stolen this from my salary, and I tried to contest this with local team leaders / supervisors and union memebers, but all to no avail.
  
  Canda Post HR is extremely slow to respond, taking 3 months or longer from initial online application to even hear back from them. Their hiring process is extremely tedious, slow and inefficent, with multiple reqruied on-site interviews, background checks, physical and written tests, just for some simple labour-related work. The inital 12 days delivery agent training is also extremely tedious and strict with easy-termination clauses, and the only upside is that is it paid training. Also they should have make it easier and faster for new hirees to become full time, newbies shouold not have to wait about 18 months or longer to go from temp to get full time benefits. I heard other companies only has about 2 months probation or even shorter.
  
  It is the breaucrats' own fault for being so excessively greedy with all the extra requirements and regulations in the job; this is supposed to be a simple delivery job with heopfully reasonable workload, but they had to over-complicate things with excessive micro-mangement, and the greedy management's penny-pinching has overburdened the workers workload excessively.
  The supervisors are unreasonably overly picky about shoe attires and flyers, and are unsympatheic with the over-burdend workload on routes (especially on heavy-volume/multi-flyer days), and punishes employees frequently with formal discplinary interviews / mock-trials, which you have to rely on the local CUPW union reps as your defense lawyers against the oppressive management.
  Also as a result, Canada Post still uses outdated tracking scanners (blackberry "ZEBRA" PDT from the 1990's era), which is slow to boot up and frequently jams or runs out of batteries.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• I can't believe how much this Corporation loathes their employees!! They will not listen to ideas, or feedback. Their whole mentality is , if you don't like it quit! • Employé depuis 10 ans. Bien qu'aucune entreprise soit parfaite, j'aime bien mon travail, mes collègues et mes superviseurs. L'ambiance est bonne et contrairement à ce que plusieurs racontent, je n'ai pas encore rencontré le monstre.
  
  J'avoue que du côté convention collective, l'employeur demande que des reculs depuis des années. Vu de cet angle, il est clair qu'il ne nous respecte pas.

• I fell on the job and was injured in my arms and couldn't preform regular duties. We ARE NOT COVERED if hurt on the job I was advised by my doctor to stop working so Canada post and work safe BC work together to deny and delay claims or physio.Im still injured and not able to work im appealing wcb because they denied my injury after delaying for 17 weeks and i was being payed IOD=injury on duty, pending at 70 percent of my wage. I now owe a so-called over payment to Canada post for 14 thousand dollars They are clawing this payment back at 100 percent so If and when I go back to work I will be working for free im grieving Canada post because they caused pain and suffering by giving no notice of clawing back 100 percent after they suggested i request my lieu days and holidays /they then clawed that all back
  After 17 years they treat people like crap and harass and ignore doctors diagnoses Im working with my member of parliament and CUPW to straighten this 3th world situation.

• I have been working there for 12 years. Just to resume my experience: I have endured bullying from my employer for 9 years after I had a work accident in 2003. I am still suffering from PTSD because of it and I quit in 2012. We have to check our paycheck everytime we receive it because they ALWAYS makes mistakes. You cannot go an entire 6 mounts without a paycheck mistake.
  Canada Post has the highest rate of work related injury in Canada. Everybody I know who had a work accident had to fight against the employer for at least to years to have their injury recognized. Even if we have a union to protect us, it's not enough. Anyway, a union representative told me once that the union is there only to protect the whole not the individuals. What this means is that if your issue has some particulariry they won't help you with it. I asked help to start a file on the bullying I was suffering I no one is there to help. Finally, there is absolutly NO chance for a promotion or for transferring jobs since you have to quit and be rehired. • Terrible company to work for. Hate their employees, I mean really hate them. Truly ridiculous management practices. It has gotten worse and worse over the years. And the switch to end door to door was based on numbers that couldn't have been more wrong, with the head of the company sitting - in conflict of interest - on the board who came up with the numbers. • I personally do not have problems with management or my job. Been with Canada Post for 6 years. However I know majority of my co workers come into work daily with a negative attitude and believe the supervisors are against them. Very poison environment for sure. • There isn't much more to say than what has already been said. New employees do not get proper training, both new and senior staff get treated like pieces of garbage. • This company has no respect for their employees. The stress they cause has effected our health and safety. They have no concern on how our jobs and family are effected.

• Ive been a temporary letter carrier for 2 years. I work at different stations all over the GTA. I work about 50 hours a week. And have had 0 days off. Not once have I been thanked or somewhat appreciated by any management or supervisor. There is no future here for younger employees. All letter carriers are hired as temps with the promise of one day getting permanent status. With the loss of door to door permanent status will probably take 10 years if ever in the GTA. The two tiered wage structure is BS. Temps do the hardest jobs for less pay and no benefits. Thats our Government...Removing a public service without consulting the public, relying on a temporary workforce to avoid paying benefits, paying some people less for the same work being performed. • Been there 30 years. Getting worse as the years go on. Keep your head down and get out asap. Always been a corrupt operation but that too has gotten worse. • I guess I have really lucked out! I am a term employee. I work at least 3 hours a week and when I want to. The work is easy and satisfying. I work on my own so it gives me a break from my home life. My wages are excellent. My supervisor is a huge team player and likes to challenge the staff. I am a mother with young children and find them willing to work with my needs. My only suggestion is to give it a try. • I had the misfortune of being hired as a letter carrier in Edmonton, I had the option of doing the truck runs and didn't put in for it quick enough as they make it hard for you as a new hire to understand how to put in for placements. My first day out on a walk I was put on a huge route someone called in sick for. I was out til 9 pm as I didn't know the area.i missed pick up locations and was injured due to the long day and weight of bags. After that fiasco I was put on light duties and was harassed by the supervisor to the point of needing union support. I was basically forced out before my probation period , but thanks to the union all the negative comments on my file were deleted. I was treated horribly while there and I am grateful to not be there at all. I feel bad for injured workers and long time suffering employees. This is a very bad work environment not recommended. • It is hard to even put into words how horrible the management at Canada Post is. I have been an employee for 10 years and the only positive is that it has gotten so bad that it has motivated me to go back to school for engineering. The job itself is actually good, I like the work and the staff, the management is pathetic. The entire management is comprised of low level bureaucrats that are incapable of free thought or competency in anything they do. I wish to see the entire company go under. • As an employee of this company for almost 15 years, I have seen this company get worse for employees and customers alike. Since 2011, this company's focus seems to be on the stimulation of upper management bonus trigger goals. The complete disregard for improving customer service, as well as not giving proper time value to allow employees to perform their daily duties safely and effectively is very insulting. I used to recommend CPC as a good company to seek employment, now I recommend to look elsewhere. There are a lot of great individuals within the organization, but the top heavy upper management calls all the shots and is driving this company into the ground.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• They will lie to you to get you in, you'll find out after a week or so that exept for your salary you're in a shitty job, they don't like you taking breaks or lunch if you call in sick they will call you right back to make you come in. • Canada Post abuses the "temporary worker" position. Temporary employees typically work 10+ hours per day for wages much lower than "permanent employees" I have not had a day off this entire year, I receive no benefits and I get paid much less for the 50 hour work week I put in. Sound like a temporary employee? Every week and sometimes everyday I work at a different station and I am usually ignored by management which is nice however on e in a while a"thanks for covering walk xx we appreciate it" would be nice.
  I enjoy being a letter carrier but see no future for me within this top heavy so called crown corporation. Avoid letter carrier positions unless you are desperate. You will rarely be home to see your family   read complete rating Hide complete rating
