• I was an employee for over 4 years, I was given 40 cents over those years as wage increases. Very physical work, no recognition by management. Never good enough, customers were rude, swore at employees, etc, management said "that's retail" . Worked all through covid19, we were given bags of popcorn, download movie upon, and other minor " rewards".The company made rude amounts of money, not much in profit sharing to employees. The only good thing was the health benefits, but that doesn't buy groceries. Ok if you are a student, but that's it, minimum wage!!!   read complete rating Hide complete rating

  Based on the owners attitude alone, I would rate this company as five out of five.
  Based on the owners attitude alone, I call this a one in a million company.
  
  In my many years at Princess Auto, I found the senior leadership very good at talking about “The Values”. I found the local leadership even better at dismissing
  “The Values.”
  
  The common phrase repeated in front of other witnesses.
  
  “Yeah, but we're so busy”
  
  In my “not quite daily diary” I also recorded; dates, locations, machines, times, and some other things I consider relevant.
  
  1000+ cleaning off machine at the start of my shift. leader put a cage nearby, so afternoon shift could dispose of the trash properly
  
  50+ Sundays I walked in to a reach not plugged in.
  1300+ piles of floor sweepings that were waiting at the start of my shift.
  400+ piles of floor sweepings behind the closed door 2.
  400+ turn on the cardboard baler to see a bale made light
  
  1500+ running out of power before first break.
  200+ days I found crates, like logsplitters etc, under the fire hose fixture across from the shipping doors.
  I also wrote out the lectures I was exposed to every single time afternoon or midnight DIDN'T fix or clean up the trash dayshift left. They did get repetitive over the years,
  I submit, if the values were as relevant as claimed, local leadership would be able to keep new leaders, and pickers.
  
  Dare I mention; easy Fridays, team building events, meditation sessions, projects, training etc. That the rest of the team heard scuttlebut about?   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Benefits are great especially for a retail business. As with every company, some management staff are very secretive and can never be found when required.
  They also use a cookie cutter procedure for their performance reviews. When I questioned how certain statements applied to me, they said they did not and removed them from the review. • very poor upper management who hide in the office and don't want to deal with customer complaints, employee concerns or lower management concerns, but yet call them selfs "leaders". H.O. won't listen to employee concerns as long as the company or store is making money.

• i experienced very unprofessional management at the lethbridge store. People walk out on the job all the time. The favoritism is appalling and the management is abusive.head off ice ignored complaints by staff. The management gets off on power tripping. Very unprofessional. Shamefully run store. • I worked for Princess Auto in Scarborough for about 2 years. When hiring me they told me one thing and then didn't live up to their word. As part-time help I was expected to have open availability and when I did they only gave me 5 hours to live on. When I went out and found another job to get more hours they complained about my availability and that I was not making them my priority, but when I did I got very little hours.
  
  This company lacks leadership and if you want to have management talk about you to the whole store then this is the place to work.
  
  They pride themselves of treating you with respect, but if you are part-time then you are a nobody. You never hear feedback that you know the store manager is getting about your work when customers tell him what a good job you are doing.
  
  Please learn from my mistake and if you are looking for part-time work then keep on looking for this company will not look after you. If you want to work for a company that demands all of your time so you have no time for your kids or family or trying to get ahead in this world then by all means work for Princess Auto. • Management ("Leadership") is a joke. The organization is determined to promote from within, but it continually promotes people who are woefully under qualified. It is the blind leading the blind, and most decisions are based on people's personal opinions – not on proven business concepts and strategies. Amateur-hour from the top down. • I have worked at Princess Auto for just over a year and a half, and from what I can see, most people's experiences are either good or bad based on which store they work at and under which store leader.
  
  I personally have been trained by an excellent store but work in a terrible one. My store's leader is absolutely unreasonable when it comes to home/work life balance. Everyone is expected to have full open availability for the schedule.
  
  There is extremely low morale as well at my location based on a lack of empathy from the store leader.
  
  The company has great values and does what it can to treat all employees well and with fairness and respect, but they are perhaps not seeing and not aware of the poor management in some stores. Particularly in my store.
  
  I have read a statistic that is absolutely true about how when companies lose good employees it is primarily due to the direct supervisor.
  
  This is definitely the case in my store.

• I have worked for this company for 15 years. They care about training and developing their people. They practice a culture that celebrates everything and treats everyone with dignity and respect. They promote team work and have great benefits. They try to be open in all aspects of communication. They care about their customers (Guests) and strive for long lasting loyalty based on honest service and products.
  Anyone commenting negatively apparently has a chip on their shoulder based on an experience with a bad Team Leader. I’ve also seen a few of these throughout the years, but these managers do get weeded out and should not reflect on the company itself. Princess Auto is genuinely a great company to work for.

• Very poor front line management. Leaders lacking professional coaching and mentoring skills. Dispute resolution procedures are vague and lack fairness. Their vision as a company is good, but the front lines show a range of young and unmotivated staff. Young staff are great to balance out a company, but when they lack passion or interest in acquiring product knowledge then that is a problem.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• It would be a shorter list to say what is GOOD about this company.. I'll start there...
  
  - They have awesome benefits for their workers
  - We get quarterly profit sharing cheques (Bonus!!)
  - We get a pension! Who get pensions these days?
  - The company understands people have problems in life. An alcohol problem at work? They'll send you through AA before they fire you. Drug problem? Take some time off and go to rehab, before you lose your job over it.
  - Overall the company's values and culture are pretty over the top of what you find in most other companies. The owner plans on keeping this company a family-run business and you can tell he cares.
  
  Where the company lacks the most, is in management... Atleast at my location in Winnipeg. The leaders claim when you are hired "we don't do favoritism" which is a complete joke and a half. Their "leaders" hide in their office all day and do not do any "leading" unless it comes to writing people up. They talk the talk, but cannot walk the walk it seems.
  
  The team members that actually SHOULD be hired as leaders, who actually care and do the work required of a leader, are getting in trouble and scolded, and the extremely incompetent people who do nothing but socialize all day, get no sort of punishment. That is probably the most frustrating thing when it comes to the management skills of our leaders.
  
  Morale is extremely low at my store, and has alot of trouble keeping employees because of all the drama that goes on behind closed doors. They try to improve it, but because of the initial laziness of the employees that they hire, nothing seems to work.
  
  Stress levels are pretty high aswell. There is a group of maybe 10 people at my store (about 80 employees total) who do 95% of the workload, and the rest sit around socializing and doing nothing, so it provides alot of frustration, and lots of tension around the building.
  
  Its not a TERRIBLE place to work, but its definately not the greatest place thats for sure.   read complete rating Hide complete rating
