• Worked for 3 years. Training was inadequate. Very political - inept management only concerned with their own advancement. Although I consider that I did great work some negative opinions must have appeared tho never revealed to me so I could make improvements. • To all you folks who lasted 7, 10 plus years I commend you. I lasted 6 days.
  
  Honestly I have never seen a company hire a group of applicants and call it a 'Pilot Protect' where they intentionally refuse to train you how to use programs.
  
  How do you expect a worker to be able to provide the services that customers require when you refuse to train the programs you're using during training?
  
  Also the two trainers in my class where SO pathetic. Complete incompetence. In ability to teach.
  
  And the comments that came out of the trainers mouth, wow someone ought to direct that trainer to the Human Rights Code of Canada.
  
  I am soooooooooooooo glad I did not stay with RBC.
  
  And if anyone in upper management who is reading this learn to hire people who actually know how to train and ACTUALLY train on the products/computer programs you're using.

• I worked for this company for a total of 7 years. I quit last year and have never regretted my decision to do so. My last few years there were so bad that I couldn't even hear the goins-on from my former colleagues without reacting emotionally.
  
  Overall, I found RBC well-managed on the business side: processes were efficient and sensible, the outcomes were overall positive. Things were generally well-thought out, with good feedback and correction mechanisms.
  
  On the people management side, my experiences were very hit or miss. I started out with good managers, but had a series of inept ones at the end that produced a senseless, infantalizing atmosphere. The managers would defonitely use personal preference in how they evaluated employees, encouraged them and supported them and if they didn't like you, they would use isolation tactics to get the person to quit (I was told by a higher-level employee whom they didn't know I was friendly with, that there had been emails about me to try and isolate me). I was pretty sure thst I was being lied about or misframed behind my back by my manager (probably to protect herself from my complaints), but never had concrete proof. I went from being one of the employees well regarded by upper mgmt to being a not well-liked employee, not because of my work, but because I voiced valid concerns about the leadership and I could see the difference in my treatment.
  
  The upper management tended only to promote yes-men, so they could be hard to relate to on a personal level, were sometimes absolutely pedantic to the point of senselessness, and were generally hard to regard as legitimate authority figures.
  
  Employees were disengaged and a large part of the department was habitually on sick leave. My manager lived in a delusion that her employees loved the department, mostly because employees valued their jobs and kept their shiny side showing. But the murmerings and complaints between employees showed a far more negative picture, as did the poor quality work and low productivity. People stuck around because it was stable and many wouldn't have been hireable elsewhere.
  
  There were some serious ethical failings too that I tried to voice to HR, who did nothing at all.
  
  Pay and benefits were generally poorer than in equivalent positions with other companies. The remuneration structure was skewed so that there was little felt relationship between work and bonus. It came up as a nrgative every year in the survey and rather than address it, they would try to tell us how we were wrong, either by reminding us that we do low-skill work or by suggesting that we have misunderstood all the great benefits (most of which are unuseable or negligiable unless all your business is with RBC, but their employee rates were often less competitive than other companies' public rates. Ex: Desjardins mortgage rate was lower. It always felt like TBC's mega-profits were on our back.
  
  Finally I got so fed up that I quit without a safety net in place. I found another job doing the same work and was paid far more.
  
  I have now changed fields altogether, earn far more and have greater responsibility and respect as a capable, thinking employee. But, I am always saddened that I never had the opportunity to properly develop my career within RBC. Although my current career is fulfilling, my previous could have been too had I not become so hopeless about the field after having worked for RBC.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• This bank has a very disappointing mid-level and senior management layer who can't collaborate and focus on results and long term expectations. In the IT space where I was the mess was driven mostly by contractors who had no idea what they were doing, not because their own lack of incompetence but because of their leaders lack of vision and incompetence who were also contractors hired "to do great things" for RBC. I saw contractors in high level roles behaving in a despicable way with full time employees who spent years of good work on building that foundation so they can come in and make big bucks while contracting. Senior executives can change project directions overnight with no consultation and feedback from the teams and they name that "agile transformation" or agility. People underneath won't challenge or rationalize the decisions and will toss the work on the teams who struggle to change directions and adapt . Almost everything that is wrong in the books about software project management and R&D I have seen unfolding in this bank and this is pretty sad story to swallow especially after you are being laid off with no clear justification and know well your stuff. I am not saying that this can be seen everywhere across the bank but many departments experience that. I found this very unethical and contrary to the hype that RBC is advertising and trying to sell you when get hired. Working for this bank can be hit and miss so be very careful before you commit.You don't want to be a victim of somebodies else incompetence and lack of true leadership who will manage to remain employed by the bank and even get promoted after you get out.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• i worked for rbc for 6 years, taking that job was the worst decision of my life. i swear i have mild ptsd from working there. their model for dealing with sales goals creates a situation which can lead to learned helplessness. not only that but they teach you neuro linguistic programming techniques to overcome clients valid declines of services.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• I worked for them for just over 20 years, 16 as a Mortgage Specialist. After getting very tired of this last role due to how long I had been doing it and the nature of how it had changed, I was not given the opportunity to advance my career to any other roles within this very large domestic company, despite multiple internal job applications of over a year, with a handful of interviews, much "job shadowing", internal networking etc. I feel bitter with them about this. My conclusion is that too much history with one employer is not to your advantage. Best to keep changing employers as there is no loyalty. Used to be much better when I started. Benefits were much more generous too. Met some good people internally and clients over the years and that's about it...They have their head very far up their own, you can guess the rest, to really care about you....

  well known blue chip, for what its worth to clients and me (less and less)

• Retired from bank (thank god) thought it was just me .Boy was I wrong. We have a management that is micro managing everything. YOU cannot work by that. Give me the helm of RBC for one month and you would see a turn around. Sure everyone wants to make money BUT not at the expense of the employee. The saying goes work hard play hard but with rbc cannot play hard as always working to meet you goals. I was there done that. Maybe MOVE on. RBC will suck you up

• This is a terrible company to work for, many reasons. Dishonest, terminates employees for no valid reason and then feeds you bullshit afterwards when they don't want to give you information.
  
  This company is not what they claim to be, your perceived and treated just like a number and not a human being. The pay is disgusting for what you are asked to do on a daily basis and the benefits are not that great either.
  
  The stats are ridiculously unattainable, under staffed and refuse to hire more people, a question of cost. this then causes employees to be unmotivated, stressed, anxious and burnt out .

• RBC is not a place for honest, hard-working people as you would be bullied, discriminated and harassed for speaking up to the management. Most of the MCCs and BMs are a bunch of laggards who have no people skills. Their only aim is to stick around long enough to be promoted by sucking up to their bosses. • Good place to get great experience but compensation sucks. I work in Capital Markets in Toronto on the USA side, which gets paid more than its Canadian affiliates but to be honest ive been looking around... i could definitely get paid more else where. We did fight for OT pay and we got it (not complaining there). Bonus' are ok but not the best... really salary is my only complaint. I have been promoted in the years i have been here which is fine and salary rose then but since then it doesnt go up much. My department has had a mass exodus of people due to the lack of pay (they are finding it elsewhere). You would think the higher ups would care a little more about how much time and money it takes to train a new employee not to mention someone competent enough to handle this kind of work which a lot of the time is not easy. Any way RBC i was proud but please please please pay us more... after this years "raise" i can say there will be a lot more leaving everyone's pissed and rightfully so... we all work too hard for what we get paid.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• RBC is one of the worst employers I have ever experienced. They market themselves as a great employer, yet they are the contrary. I was treated like a second class citizen for being an english speaking person in Quebec even though I was completely bilingual. They say that they have ressources in place in the even that employees are treated negatively at the hands of their bosses however, that is not the case at all. You want to call hr and feel like your voice matters? Don't bother because their hr centre is located in India and the calls are answered by people who couldn't give a shit about you. What's that? You'll call the ombudsman? Even better. He's some guy who is on RBC's payroll and couldn't spell out impartiality even if it were written in the sky. Not to mention how rude he is. He lacks any form of compassion or empathy for the employees calling in. I worked very hard and was evaluated every 6 months at the highest level one could reach and yet my boss refused to write a letter of recommandation or provide a recommendation by phone to a potential employer. I used to believe in RBC, I truly believed we wanted the best for our customers. I used to believe the words that came out of the mouth of Shaneen (vp of Canadian banking). But now I know that those words are complete rubbish.

• Unfair layoff to avoid severance pay,bonus payout, benefits and to retain their book. I was a top performer working unpaid OT, bringing in millions for RBC per year. RBC terminated me without warning for misconduct-on suspicion of fraud but have no proof (because I'm innocent), so they say its
  "breach of trust"-because I sent the docs for client to sign via Email for convenience, which is a common practice in banking.As I recalled, the incident occurred 4 months ago and my manger assured me everything is fine since I have all the proper documentations. Then at the hike of Mobile Banking Boom and over-staffing, RBC escorted me out in front of all employees. Such humiliation and defamation of my integrity and character. As for the working environment, most managers are down-right cheap. They put a dangling carrot in front of you - talk about your future career , encourage you to study PFP,CFP... and the moment you pass the exam, they refuse to pay for it when the bank clearly benefits from the professional designations. • I currently work at the retail branch level as a teller/client advisor. Worst decision for my career. Management is split into branch manager and manager of client care (MCC). MCC has no clue about the teller role, provides threatening and demeaning 'coaching sessions' when staff under-perform or make a mistake, and she leads by fear and authority. I have no desire to reach my sales targets, especially in a branch that doesn't bring in 'new money' as often as other local branches. Our clients are all old-aged and lower-middle income groups. Scheduling is done at the last-minute and it's hectic - I have to give away stability and a predictable schedule for one that requires working evenings and weekends. Working retail hours is not for everyone - I thought I could manage it just for a bit until I can move within RBC, but it's demotivating and doesn't help maintain strong work ethic, especially when my friends and family can afford to enjoy a Saturday at the park but I have to book that Saturday off a month in advance. Colleagues at the retail level gossip about each other in open space; there is overt bullying, and everyone seems to hate each other due to improper managing. For a young person who just came out of college/university, THIS IS NOT A GOOD PLACE to start off. RBC's fair compensation is enticing but if you want to reach your potential and get the support you need in a right environment, the retail branch is the last place to consider doing this.   read complete rating Hide complete rating
