• Sears Abbotsford ignored derogatory gossiping, bullying and harassment claims against their supervisors and mgmt. Their philosophy was to say the person was being "assertive". I know the difference between bullying and constructive management. I have not shopped at any Sears since I left the Abbotsford store in 2010. I'm glad they are closing. Now all the staff who didn't acknowledge bullying in their workplace will hopefully learn that type of mgmt went out with the 80's. Good riddance!   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Ils ont des employés dévouer et ne les écoutent même pas.
  
  Aucune vision à court, moyen et long terme. Il essaie simplement d'éteindre l'incendie qui brûle depuis plus de 4 ans.
  
  Le salaire ne sont aucunement compétitif. Autant au niveau du personnel administratif, ventes et direction. Il cherche des talents pour essayer de leur donner un second souffle, mais n'offre rien en retour.
  
  Horaire illogique pour les gens de plancher. Pas capable de garantir d'heure.
  
  La direction et superviseur ne sont pas en mesure de répondre à 80% des questions d'employés ou ont le devoir de ne rien dire.
  
  Grand manque de transparence de la direction.
  
  Lorsque vous en faites plus, ce n'est pas remarqué pas les superviseur et lorsque vous demander quelques choses c'est non et se ferme les yeux sur tout ce que vous avez fait.
  
  Les équipements de travail sont désuets et ralentisse le traitement de tout ce qui ce passe dans les magasins. C'est normal, ils n'ont pas d'argent pour rien changer.
  
  Pression énorme sur les employés surtout lorsqu'il ont commission. Commission toujours à la baisse et rien pour compenser sauf se faire dire de vendre plus avec moins d'outils.
  
  Une personne qui souhaite vivre une expérience ou qu'il va apprendre dans un entreprise mal gérer, qui ne va nul part et ayant un manque de compétence à presque tout les niveaux : C'est votre choix.
  
  Je ne conseilles aucunement l'entreprise. Si vous souhaitez évoluer comme personne, vous souhaitez progresser dans un compagnie, vous voulez un peu de reconnaissance de temps à autres .... je ne vous conseille pas Sears.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• I can't believe what is happening. 2,900 will be laid off and none of them will get severance? The retired employees will have promised health & dental benefits cut. To those that are thrilled to still be employed, please start job searching immediately. Your number may be up tomorrow, and you will be out with no severance while you look for another job. • i just quit my job at Sears i worked for them for 3 and half years. I liked my job but have never been so insulted in all my years of retail. They disrespect all their employees. They let good workers go for no reason. You work your butt off and get no recognition . They give no raises they have the nerve to rate you when they don't really know how hard you work. If they personally like you you will get your hours. After working there for years they have the gull to hand me a letter basically saying if i don't work harder they are going to dismiss me. Of course i didn't sign the letter because i work my butt off. An hour later they call me in the office and said they made a mistake i shouldn't have got the letter. Yes ok it has my name on it so obviously it was meant for me. When i asked who wrote this about me i couldn't get an answer. They never put their sales in the computer . • Working for this company has been the worst experience of my working career. I have been with the company for several years earning a bit over minimum wage and have never received a raise in pay. I earn now what I was earning 25 years ago.
  My workweek consists of a minimum of 50 hours but I get paid for 37.5 only. There is absolutely no compensation for extra hours worked but it is expected to do whatever it takes to get the job done. Much of the work is tedious and drudgery at best. Education, experience is meaningless.
  The general rule for the day is chaos. Actually it is simply the rule. All systems are archaic and pointless. Questions are not encouraged or answered. Employees at all levels are expected to simply obey whatever the rule of the moment is. Just do as you are told and get it done fast and perfectly. Follow"direction" from managers to the word. If a manager directs you to move something an inch, make sure it is exactly that.
  On managers, anyone can be assigned management duties as needed by other managers especially during undesirable shifts.
  High level management positions are filled by external candidates. There is no formal training for new managers. Internal employees are not promoted.
  Training consists of shadowing other employees or sitting around with other employees socializing.
  The company pretends to be one thing publically but absolutely has no respect for its employees. Everyone is replaceable.
  Currently the company is cutting front line and administrative positions while maintaining management roles. The company is not interested in its employees opinions or viewpoints. There is no longer staff to do the work so all employees are expected to wear many hats.
  Retail stores are over crowded with merchandise. It is difficult to find sales staff to assist customers in both full line and home stores.

• Sears is the worst of the worst company I have worked for; I have witnessed the management faking fraudulent cases against targeted employees to get them fired using unfortunately other employees. Myself I was victim of this type of crimes. I had to leave and filed a case against them within Human right tribunal of Ontario. • Been there 3 years and now they are threatening commission salespeople with sending them home early on their shifts if they do not get extended warranties. • SearsCanada is definitely a sinking ship. The way they treat their employees is despicable, with 20 year plus employees still earning only minimum wage. • I like the job portion of Sears but I find the commissioned employees are so jealous of each other that they set the stage/ tone of the entire store. They talk about each other to anyone who passes by and encourage employees from other departments to do the same with each other. It's so draining - thank goodness I am not commissioned or else I would quit.

• Working for Sears Canada was probably the worst experience of my whole working career. Poor management and ineffective style of coaching. The only pro to working for this company is the employee discount. My experience was awful and they have very little regard for how they treat their employees. • I have only been with the company for just a month,,their main concern was getting people to sign up for credit cards when the majority their target are seniors or they just dont want one...performance base for the hours...my customer service was great i came in did my job making customers happy...

• I did my best to be a model employee, I have never been fired from a job but this one. The management structure of this company is simply achaeic. It relies entirely on senile old ladies signing up for Sears cards so that the company might pray on them as customers further. I have nothing good to say about my experience here, the company is hemmohraging money and it's very easy to see why. I was let go at the end of my two month probationary period because I did not push the Sears card hard enough, but that's pretty tough with no customers. I was never given a warning or told my performance was inadequate, on the contrary I was told to keep up the good work at my one month conference with my supervisor. This company is a sinking ship and I'm glad I lined up other employment immediately, for those who weren't smart enough to read the writing on the wall I do sincerely hope they hit the ground as hard as the outdated mismanaged vessel that carries them there.

• I came and went really quickly from this company. I still see them having constant job fairs and hiring (I honestly think this is a ruse to make the company appear prosperous) and they talk the big talk about company values when you join. Then they just plough through staff and replace. Kept bringing in more and more bodies with current staff given minimal hours!(like 4-8 per week.)
  
  This is a picture of a company going under and being there just made me think "pull the plug already and stop abusing people".
  
  If you're a cashier, you flat out get fired if you don't sign up enough rapid credit cards (just how many times can the same retirees say "no" as they hang about a mall every other day??). Plus there's a ton of promotional information staff were told they must keep saying to customers all day, or else. Actually every day there was a new list of this or that we had to do, with a threat.
  
  Other positions were just loaded up with massive work to be completed with no hours to do so. Eight hours work crammed into 2. Shifts were cut to a bare minimum with no reduction of work load. Then the managers play this stupid game of coming to you every day for an explanation of why you couldn't do the impossible, as if it was your fault. Honestly Sears has turned into nothing but a bargain basement/sweat shop.
  
  The best hypocrisy is that, on the one hand, you could get written up for working off the clock. But it was nothing for a manager to walk up to you 10 minutes before the end of your shift and say "get this done, no excuses" and walk away.
  They allotted shifts based on favouritism not seniority calling it "performance-based scheduling". And how do they determine the "hard workers"? Those very staff who worked through their breaks and couldn't seem to leave on time.
  Just stay away and save yourself some grief. It's 2015 and there are so many better places to spend your precious life in.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• I worked at Sears HQ for 25 years. When I first started it was great, great leaders and great people. Dean Rogers ruined Sears and crushed every associate in the company. • I have worked for this company for about eight years, and I often why the heck I am still there. It's like a bad wooden roller coaster ride as far as hours.
  
  They say hours are based on performance, but really it depends on how far up the bosses butt you can be. Which is great if you're into that. The biggest problem is things are continuously being done wrong. Which is only because new employees aren't being trained correctly, which isn't their fault.
  
  Not too mention the problem that employees are being bombarded to make customers sign up for 'Sears credit cards' or else they will be put on the chopping block. So you could say that Sears has become the abusive spouse to it's employees using manipulations for hours, putting down employees and forcing people to stay longer or else they won't get hours the next week.
  
  The management is a bit terrible to say the least. Most of them don't know what a style code is or aren't familiar with a colour wheel. Really most managers know less about what's going on than actual associates. Plus, they have more of a tendency to shop the store rather than help out customers.
  
  Managers usually wonder why tasks aren't done and don't understand why. Mostly because they're not familiar with actually working.
  
  It's sad to say, because I actually really enjoyed working for this company at one point. However poor management, lack of honesty and lack of care for the customer has changed that.

• This company has seen its day and the sooner the day is over... the better...for everyone. They have outdated policies, computer systems, and ideas, as well as a 'my way or the highway' mentality. It is a very sexist, good old boy company and respect in the workplace is non-existent. They could care less about their customers... to them it is only about the bottom line. If only they were smart enough to know that HAPPY customers ARE THE BOTTOM LINE... but you can't tell them anything! As for the workplace itself...the place I worked was a dirty, filthy HOLE complete with a coffee room that had mouse droppings in it... nice! It was a toxic work atmosphere complete with a good old boy mentality. I really needed a job but when I think about the experience I had here... I don't need a job that badly. There comes a time when self respect outweighs the monetary gain. I can't say that it would make me sad to see this ship sink... it's time... in fact, well past time. If you cannot be open to new ideas then you can't move forward into the future... it's that complex and that simple... all in one. • This ship is sinking for a reason. I worked there for almost two years, and looking back it seemed to be all for naught.
  
  For starters, I was paid well below the average for my position. I thought that since I was in an entry-level position, I'll take the salary hit to get experience in my field; plus that if I'm there for a while, I'd be privy to any new opportunities that come available. Boy, was I wrong.
  
  I was told that since Sears, "didn't meet their 'targets'", that my department wouldn't be getting pay increases. But it's funny how you read in the papers that the CEO and a couple of the other execs received almost 80% pay raises this year (2014). They can't afford to pay the entry- and mid-level associates a decent wage, but they can routinely give out pay increases in the six-figure range to the SVPs and the AVPs without blinking an eye – the very same people that are responsible for ensuring we meet our targets, yet my department (which is not responsible for the frontline activities) somehow bears the brunt of these failed goals.
  
  I've also watched associates, who had been here nowhere's near as long as I have, get promotions and -- wait for it -- pay increases. These promotions were done in a completely surreptitious fashion, as their new positions were not posted on our intranet to give everyone a fair chance to the jobs. I, on the other hand, received next to no opportunities to improve my skills or be offered any better roles. And on top of that, when I did apply for one role through our company intranet, I wasn't even granted an interview. Just classless.
  
  My department was also perpetually overworked and understaffed -- on top of being underpaid. The AVP who should be fighting for us to the VP in terms of salary increases and additional help, showed me time and time again that he was incapable of doing so (and this is someone who has been there for over 30 years!).
  
  The upper managers treated my sub department with absolute contempt and condescension and throw the blame on us when something goes wrong. They have no issues harassing us should they need something done pronto, but if we have a request for them, we're treated like an annoyance. It’s disturbing how little they understand our policies and procedures – even though they are managers!
  
  Sears also offers absolutely nothing (and when I say nothing, I mean zero dollars) in terms of tuition reimbursement should someone want to go back to school or even get some additional certification; unless you’re in upper management.
  
  On top of all this, our building (head office) is filthy. We had to use the fire escape for one fire drill, and I was horrified by the conditions of the fire escape. It was clear that there were people living in the stairwells as they were covered with broken glass, feces (you read that right), dust, and cobwebs – as well as we were hampered by poor lighting. There have also been times where associates working late can smell marijuana through the fire escape as well.
  
  By the time my position was eliminated (or so they say), I was still working at an entry-level job, with sub-entry-level pay.
  
  Sears is nothing short of a 7th-rate organization, run by unethical, self-absorbed incompetents with no blueprint for the future -- and I, for one, will not shed a tear when this company goes under in the not too distant future. Good riddance.   read complete rating Hide complete rating
