• Avoid unless you like abuse. Its ok for a few years but if your looking to make any decent amount of money, they will get you out before it ever happens. Management are all inexperienced kids that corporate manipulate. • AVOID THE CAMROSE, AB STARBUCKS.
  
  Camrose is a university town and is already really prone to high turn over. But the camrose Starbucks location is a whole other level of employee turnover hell. Worked for the company for 4 years, had 2 month or longer stress leaves or planned my vacation as close to my breaking point as I could so I could escape. Benefits are good but compensation for the job expectations of Shift Supervisor was pathetic. I was the third highest paid supervisor in my location and I would never take that job again without being paid $25 or more per hour. Mentally the management expects far too much, management is demoralizing and incompetent, high and mighty and refuse to be on floor with the staff (when it is required to be on the floor for 69% of their time) schedules we’re out on time but changed in less than 24 hours constantly. Mike G. The new manager is horrible, a kind guy but stupid and scrapes by by being charming. Cooperate bootlicker, doesn’t care for his staff, and enables Mak the ASM who is demeaning, arrogant, holier-than-though, brown moser who is condescending. Promotions were hung above partners for months, never followed through.Constantly blamed supervisors for their downfalls in training and coaching, expected insane productivity from night staff but nothing from the morning crew. Hired people in supervisory positions who were under qualified and rude. Too many useless meetings and often wasted valuable floor time. In the months prior to my firing they lost half of their staff and nobody has full time hours. What a joke. District managers and HR are useless in this company, they are there to protect this Fortune 500 company and not the employees. Awful. • I've worked for many stores and most are great. Country hills village on the other hand is the most demoralizing and demotivating place I have ever been. If you try your best you are still told you're terrible on a daily basis. Makes you not want to try at all when the results are the same. • Having worked for starbucks across the North Shore and Squamish for 15 years I can say that it has changed throughout the years. At this point in time Starbucks is at an all time low regarding how they treat their employees. The level of compensation relative to the average work load is poor. McDonald's may treat their employees better. The disconnect between the corporate vision and leadership outside of the retail environment and within is huge, and the workload compared to actual labour coverage is wearing down baristas. With regards to in store management i have noticed throughout the last 5 years especially that external hires are either not being selected well or they are not getting adequate training. The internally promoted store managers are burning out faster than ever before and the expectations laid out by leadership can never be matched with a 50 hour work week! • I work at the corporate head office downtown Toronto - morale is not good; management completely untrustworthy; and it is very like working within a cult and they are proud of this cult like status. Everyone is the same, they strain out any individuality; it's almost spooky! If you want to be exactly like everyone else, Stepford like, then this is the company for you. • Unfortunately I have to give Starbucks a low rating. (Toronto DT and Mid town Locations) The company promises a lot but delivers only rhetoric and corporate babel. This organization is good only if you are looking for a McJob, perfect for students. Their turnover is huge so they are always looking, in fact desperate for new staff. If you are a store manager you really and I mean really need to know how to suck up. District managers are forced to be brutal and most store managers will not last long. Even at the management level turnover is huge, which is a sure sign that a company does not treat their employees well. So if you need to work there make sure it works for you. Get what you need and leave when something better comes along. No company loyalty there so don't look for it. This is an honest and accurate review. • Hired as a manager & I went here for career. I have had 4 district managers. What I love: my customers, my partners, most of my fellow managers. What needs to improve: help for partners who don't show up, more non coverage so you don't have do do admin work on your breaks, more support & encouragement from upper management. Seems to be negative leadership from a DM who shows up once every two to 3 months. What needs to stop: Partners who call at 3am & tell you they are sick & not showing up to work. (meaning that you are going in because nobody is going to help you at 3am find coverage.) Favoritism among the district managers - it's a rampant problem. Calling for regional telephone calls with very little notice so you could get coverage for you on the floor. Less packaging for set ups...the amount of waste is abhorrent. Setting store targets high so they don't have to pay you bonus. I love my job, but I am leaving because managers are not treated well. We manage partners who want what they want. We work for DM'S who demand what they want, but when it comes to getting help & support for yourself it's not there. • I absolutely loved my job at Starbucks; I worked at one in Windsor from September 2013 until June 2014. I would've loved to continue working at Starbucks but unfortunately my manager was not professional and uncaring to his employees.
  
  I had started another job end of April 2014 (my second summer, a position he knew I was taking in early March 2014). After a few weeks of getting shifts outside of my availability, I gave in 3 weeks notice. I wanted to leave on a good note but I couldn't handle the 2 full time jobs and was frustrated I kept getting shifts outside of my availability. Due to the fact that I had to give shifts away and switch with other partners, my manager was upset I did so (even though it is completely 100% allowed as long as a partner is working that shift and that partner has not gone over 40 hours already that week). Thanks to of my lovely (not) manager, I was put on the "Do not Hire" list. After trying to talk to my district manager, who was not interesting in helping me, I finally gave up hope of working at a place I not only loved, I had to say goodbye to ever working with my friends and fellow partners again.

• I love the people I work with, and the job itself is great, but I'm nearly losing my apartment, waiting on EI to go through. I left my full-time job to work here and have recieved at most, 25 hours one week after picking up a bunch of shifts, but I'm usually only scheduled for around 8hrs. I cant afford to eat or pay my bills. I am very bitter towards this job, although I do blame the management specifically more than I blame the company, it still makes it very difficult to respect them as a company when you're being treated like you dont matter. I'm sure I would have been happier here if I could actually support myself with it. They also told me that if I cant make myself a super "energetic" person that I shouldn't be working since that is now part of our job. If you ask me, no one should ever be able to ask you to change your personality. If I'm doing my job and trying to do what I can with the energy I have, I shouldnt have to miss out on money because I didnt smile enough. Emotional labor much?

• My Starbucks days are long behind me, however it still remains one of my favourite work atmospheres I have ever experienced. I worked there during my university days and I remember my co-workers to be fun and extremely helpful, and overall I enjoyed being there. Now I mull in the everyday politics and inconsistent nature of the corporate world, but I do sometimes find myself reminiscing about the fun times I had as a barista. The company has a strong corporate vision and clearly takes pride in its stores and product. I inevitably left due to one manager who came in roaring on a power trip (funny how that happens), but overall I truly enjoyed the people I worked with and learned some great barista skills :)   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• J'ai travaillé un peu moins d'un an au Starbucks de l'avenue Mont-Royal à Montréal. Ça été parmi les meilleurs emplois étudiants que j'ai occupés, si ce n'est pas le meilleur. Suite à l'embauche, nous avons une formation de 40 heures (!) sur la compagnie, le café, les types de boissons, etc. Je devenais réellement Barista!
  L'ambiance est intime, chaleureuse, moderne. Un foyer trônait au milieu des lieux et nous avions la vue sur l'avenue fort achalandée.
  Salaire minimum, mais petit pourboire d'environ 30-40$ par shift. Les pourboires dépendent beaucoup de l'emplacement géographique. Et le soir, je partais avec les viennoiseries non vendues puisque sinon, on les jetait (ou les donnait à des itinérants du coin). Une fois par semaine, j'avais droit à une livre de café au choix! Wow! De quoi faire des provisions ou des cadeaux. En plus, à chaque quart de travail, je pouvais prendre jusqu'à 5 boissons...caféine caféine!
  Bref, redevenir étudiante, je ferais sans doute le choix de retourner chez Starbucks :)   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Been working for starbucks for 4 years and it is definitely in a downhill spiral. the amount of responsibility given vs. the amount you are paid is not worth it at all. you run around like a chicken with you head cut off, catering to generally pretty rude people for minimum wage. its not fun. and the general public seems to come to starbucks to ruin your day because someone else has ruined theirs. nothing the company is doing benefits baristas and supervisors. they want us to push sales to meet targets...so our managers can get a bonus. zero incentive in my opinion.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• I have to say that after working at Starbucks for over a year I still really enjoy it. I was hired as full time and given full time hours all the time. Booking vacation time off was never an issue as long as I give plenty of notice, I had to cut my availability back to only two days a week and they were totally accommodating. I miss not being there more often. • Favourite job of my life. Working at Starbucks is the best thing that could happen. The managers are great, they actually care about you as a person and appreciate things. They don't take anyone for granted. You get a free pound of coffee or a bag of tea every week. Amazing place to work! The only minor thing I'd have to say is that they are very concerned with labour costs (as are most places). Because of that after everyone gets sent home you feel like you are understaffed and it can get a bit stressful. Other than that though, great place to work. • I think this was my location more than the company, but, this is my experience at Starbucks. My very first day my trainer told me that people don't show up all the time, that lots of people have quit, then she started bashing one of these former partners who had quit. She then proceeded to tell me about her love interests who came to our extremely busy location and instead of training me, often would hold long and horrendously detailed conversations with them in front of me. She told me personal details that, even at a personal level, I didn't need to know. A couple days down the line the ASM was complaining to other partners about how one of the other partners was viewing e-mails in the back in a 'how dare he' tone. I made the mistake of saying maybe he didn't know he wasn't allowed and they were left open for everyone to see. I think after that I wasn't viewed too kindly by the downright immature ASM and other partners. After one month I was being set up for no-win scenarios, and was not being put on bar despite having some training under my belt. I was also still being paid under training despite the reality that I was put on till two or three days after starting and hadn't left after a month (don't get tips when you're training). My superior was being very snarky with me and a customer leaned in and told me 'don't let her get away with that.' I knew I had to leave after that. I'm university educated and was only looking for a very busy environment to work and instead Starbucks tops my list of worst places I've worked and it was because of partners, not the job.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Working at starbucks has its perks and downfalls. It depends completely on the management time in your district and your store. I've worked at 3 different locations over the past 5 years in different districts. My first location was dreadful. The management team was very discouraging. The staffing team of baristas and shift supervisors did not seem to care enough about the store, and it was a bit of a mess and caused much more stress for those who remotely cared about the job. That being said, I moved to a different location with pleasant staff and very encouraging management team and there was much more of a difference in the work atmosphere. The hours are pretty awful depending on your location. If you are prepared to be at work for 430am for an open or if you don't mind staying at work until 1am cleaning up the store than this is the job for you!   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• It is a lovely place to work, but they pay below min wage and give you a 1lbs of coffee each week to subsidize that cost. No one should be paid below min wage.
