• Close to a decade as a service technician and I can say it started out as a fun, engaging place to be where quality was the priority but fast forward to the last few years and it genuinely does not matter if a house is properly grounded or service covers the entire property, it's all about those sales numbers.
  
  If you can sell, it genuinely does not matter what you do. Even as someone with consistent numbers, the pressure is unbelievably high. The best part is if you don't sell, they'll simply pull your GPS just to find a reason to get rid of you. Everything now is weaponized to ensure you comply with their unrealistic and dishonest sales tactics regardless if you agree with it or the customer wants it.
  
  These numbers are even more inflated by dishonest tactics by the top 5% of sellers, be it crediting for diagnostic charges or swapping services to a spouses name, but they set the standard now for everyone.
  
  It should also be noted that at least 50% of the job consists of trying to fix all the provisioning issues created by the undertrained, under qualified overseas agents who have replaced the Canadian workforce.
  
  Telus claims the future is friendly but their actions against their own workforce prove otherwise and this is shown through the bargaining tactics and VSP actions as soon as pulsecheck is over (surprise surprise. ) they don't want a skilled workforce,they want a Salesforce. This is no longer a Canadian company nor a place to be proud of association to.
  
  Can only hope this Rogers/Shaw merger exposes what Telus thinks of their customers and workforce.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Just came off of Contacting for almost 3 years. Saw this company rotate thru about 15 employees. They have change the Pay structure From Peace rate. To Guaranteed 40 hrs pay/week.... But get this ... your PAY is a COMPETITION between all the other contractors. Your "Scorecard" gives you a Letter grade that all depends on the other Techs score card.... Now if this JUST HAD Quality of Install, Time install took, customer satisfaction.. that's great! But nope.... Sales and Extra charges are worth a whopping %30 of that scorecard (Telus' expectation is for you to always be above 85%). So if you dont make at least 1 NEW sale (not upgrading existing services) every 2 weeks. You get paid $20/hr. Basically a $1200 cheque for that week. And your competing against EVERY CONTRACTOR IN EVERY CITY.... Technicians are dropping like flies, and the only ones getting hired are people brand new to the industry with little to no experience. • I have worked for 32+ years starting with BCTel. Over the past 10 years the company has completely switched from a quality first company to a sales driven dishonest organization. If the public only knew how Telus views it customers. Telus now provides the bare minimum of service and expects its employees to constantly sell. It is difficult to come to work each day knowing that you required to be dishonest with your customers just to make a sale. On a side note, all our tech support has been off shored to incompetent contractors. As a field tech, it’s not unusual to spend 60% of your work day on the phone trying to explain to the overseas tech how to do their job.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• I used to be proud to work for Telus, but with negotiations for a new collective agreement at a standstill because Telus wants to keep taking more away from us and offshore Canadian jobs to save money while raking in HUGE profits, I am disgusted. I have lost the respect of the company during this bargaining process...it shows we are not appreciated for the incredibly hard work that we do everyday. "Give Where We Live" used to be something I took great pride in.
  
  We are not asking for a 45% pay increase like our CEO got, just fair wages and benefits. Cost of living has increased immensely, but we have gotten nothing. Our call centres are in large urban areas where it is very expensive to live, but Telus doesn't recognize this. The record profits that Telus boasts about are because of the work we do EVERYDAY. It's time to show us that we are appreciated and recognize the hard work we do. And bring back the thousands of jobs that have been offshored. Telus is a Canadian company, yet the Canadians working for the company is dwindling each and every year.

• Spent 30+ years in the company starting of with BCTEL.
  As Telus was growing after all the mergers, it was dynamic and rewarding. The last ten years have been comically bad. It's almost as if the executives are harvesting as much as they can before it all collapses.
  You get zero recognition. Imagine on your 25th work anniversary you get an email that says "we planted a tree in your honor". Nothing else .... really?!?!?!
  BTW this behaviour is from a company that boasts of record profits and still wants to charge you for the credit card fees. It doesn't get much lower than that.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• I started when Telus became Telus from the merger. Lots of exciting times, however now after retiring, I can look back and say that the company is spiraling downward. They don't even give recognition after 5, 10, 15, etc years. Now they give you a bot email stating they planted a tree in your honor. Not even a gift card.
  There is an exodus occurring right now as high skilled positions are going south of the border for 2-3 x the wage. If you are just starting out then I would recommend Telus, but only if you cannot find or do not yet qualify for a position in a more financially secure company that actually pays proper industry rates.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Micromanagement. Unfair and unethical treatment of employees particularly in ACES. Operations manager instructs managers to decline unpaid time off for doctor. • Remember when this company was awesome? Cool, no one else does either. All the employees with knowledge and experience have been fired or forced out (entire departments forced to take buyouts or move to buttcrack AB/BC so the company can contract out and/or offshore their jobs), and now we’re left with a bunch of young employees that a) don’t know the job, b) don’t care about the job, and c) just want to make the customer buy something to keep their manager off their back for another week. Terrible atmosphere, no engagement anymore, managers that are openly hostile to the employees, constant discrimination, and just this past week Telus announced a diversity team that they have to provide an internal award of 500 Bravo points (a taxable award you can be given without your consent) that will be given to someone who agrees to participate in this sham whitewashing of the long culture and history of abuse Telus has become known for. What a joke. A truly engaged workforce is engaged...it doesn’t have to be cajoled into participation. Telus claims to be proud of its engagement, using pulsecheck as the barometer, but pulsecheck is flawed in that the managers (and directors and VPs) threaten us employees with losing our jobs to contractors if we don’t score it high. True engagement is probably somewhere around 15%, but you’d never know it from the nonsense Telus pumps out in their press releases. The Telus executive cares about one thing, one thing only, and they aren’t shy about telling every employee (starting on day one) what it is: the value of the “brand”. Telus views its brand as its only asset, and tailors everything to fit the narrative that the Brand is awesome. I suspect they want to get bought out by a USA based company, and don’t care what they have to fake and manufacture to create that outcome. • telus is definitely in a moral downward spiral likely initiated by the persona of their Executives. it's a work culture where employees are first and foremost motivated by fear of losing their jobs and benefits. techs are told their performance aren't based on so much by the quality of their installs & repairs but used as mules to persuade customers to buy more and to bill them on any extraneous services . they are told they aren't technicians anymore but 'solution advisors' Many Telus front line managers are caught in conundrum to hold to a metric/policy to build a deep dive case to terminate 2-6 employees over a period of time . lest they be removed/replaced themselves. the company weaponizes gps, their work phone records, sign-in times, sick days, and the online ethics course they are told to do & agree to is later to give the authority and rationale to terminate them. This serves to one create an atmosphere of fear to tow the company line, two to remove older employees who may have higher wages, vacation time, sick days etc...Alot less expensive than using buyout packages to get them to leave. It is sad because the company is made of so many good innate people. The fibre, copper, cellular infrastructure is maintained better than most and can be a very good product. but often customers are sent rushed techs given not enough time to do a proper job. They are under stress to bill and sell. They hire many contractors who have insufficient training and tools for the job. They are not treated all that well so they don't take ownership or care do the best job they can do. This is the modern day TELUS in a nutshell. Even their anti-bullying campaign is farcical because the culture from the top down is kept in line by bullying. • TELUS claims to have a customer's first mentality, however, technicians are told sales are more important than quality installs and repairs. Customers often have to have 3 or 4 visits before a repair or install is finally done correctly.
  
  Technicians were told they are now salesmen and if they don't like it they can find another job.
  
  TELUS doesn't care about the pandemic and that people are struggling financially. Technicians have hefty sales and billing targets.
  
  Management want technicians to do the work of 3 people with little to no support. The call centers that "support" technicians are full of inexperienced agents that don't know how to do their job and take hours to fix simple issues.
  
  For a technology company, the equipment given to the workers should be top notch, but the provided phones and laptops are refurbished and only work some of the time.
  
  So unless you want to be a salesman who has to do installs and repairs, TELUS is not the job for you.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Telus used to be a fantastic place to work, with aspirations to excel in ones career and move forward in the company. How ever, in the past year and a half alone, things have taken a turn for the worse. What was once considered a career, is now just considered another job in which to get a pay cheque.
  
  The recognition in the company is a complete disgrace. When once we were rewarded for a job well done, there is little to no recognition within the company any more. Our statistics in which our performance review are based on, went from being meaningful to strictly based on sales. Telus has always been "customer experience", how ever, sales seem to be the main focus across the company now. When you hear customers complaining about services that are not working accordingly, its not hard to believe as when a technician walks into the home, their main focus is now supposed to be sales rather then the actual aspect of the job. Sales are worth more on the scorecards of said techs, so why would they bother with anything else.
  
  The decline in service quality is a direct result of the mindset of the management team, directors and vps included. Those that stood up to the changes, and didn't agree with them, were simply removed from their position, whether completely, or moved to a different department.
  
  Work life balance is nearly none existent. Constantly being harassed for overtime, whether post shift, or being called in on days off. Taking any days off, besides what is already scheduled for regular days off and vacation, is a joke. The amount of "brown" out periods is now to the point that getting anything off that isn't already booked is going to be nearly impossible. This includes, but is not limited to, the entire summer as well as any holidays that come up. Sick days are treated poorly. Where once before one could call into work and stay home to recover, we are now told to come in to work and we will be put on modified duty. This is unacceptable. How is one to recover when we are told we should be coming to work, and management will do anything possible to ensure you come into work. Miss two days? Well we want a doctors note. On top of all this, there have been a number of people that have left on stress leave due to everything that has been going on at Telus. How ever, doing so, they are informed that they have now "ruined" their brand, and management clearly treats them as a lesser person.
  
  The scope of work within the technical role has completely changed. Where once technicians were looking at every little aspect of a specific customer, we have seen a decrease in the amount of time given for our customers. Where once techs were given for instance three hours for an install, in some cases they are now only given two. If you have to remove work, it is frowned upon and techs are given push back from our dispatchers and managers. To top this all off, techs have now had to under go training for an entirely new aspect of work, being installation and repair of Home Security systems. Although having this new role gives us a new skill set, technician pay remains the same. Our in home techs that are fully trained besides outside plant, cap at $26/hr where as our installation and repairs techs cap closer to $36/hr. This has remained the same, without any changes, regardless of the new aspects of the job. But we are encouraged to sell, especially the in home technicians, for an increase in pay from the sales incentives we receive, which is minimal at best, unless you achieve a ridiculous amount of sales, which is unachievable for the normal technician.
  
  All in all, I can honestly say that if you are seeking employment with Telus, I would strongly advise that you look else where. Telus has made it perfectly clear what is important to the company, and that is not its employees.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• This used to be a great place to work with foreseeable paths available for advancement along with a fairly straight forward expectation from the company front. Now the company has divided its technical role into two tiers (while completely stopping the hiring process on the earlier) and painting an obvious picture on their plans for the future.
  
  The role has changed from a technical role to a sales role, where you are expected to sell every service a customer doesn't have to them and if you aren't selling you're told to start looking for a new job.
  
  Alternatively you are pestered to ask friends and family or to start door knocking for sales should you not close them during regular appointments.
  
  I highly recommend looking elsewhere for employment as many of us internally are.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Telus seems to be stuck in a downward spiral when it comes to how they treat their employees. Over pressurization, veiled threats, intimidation, and horrendous internal communication between departments and team members have turned the insides of this company into a slurry of toxicity and confusion. Less and less recognition is given to front line people, and they have created a two tier work division between technicians (paid $35/hour) and Home Technicians ($25/hour) - both of these groups do exactly the same work with minor exceptions in role. This division further adds to the promotion of a toxic work environment. Further to that, constantly changing metrics that are impossible to meet keep getting shoved down our throats. There is a new sales initiative where all front line members are now expected to sell even more to our customers, if we cannot do this during work hours then we our encouraged to take “home work” home and sell to our friends and family, or pick a neighbourhood to go door too door in. If these metrics are not met we have been told that our jobs are in jeopardy; if we meet these metrics they simply increase the metric itself. The cycle never ends. The CRTC has mandated against door to door sales agents due to the shady nature of their sales practices, the company has found a loophole by turning regular employees that already are booked up with tasks to do de facto sales persons. I would strongly recommend avoiding this company and find a place that will actually encourage your growth. In the coming months I will be quitting.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• worked for the company for many years ....they are on the news for how they are 'the most giving company in the world' and promote 'anti-bullying', etc..well, that may be true with the public. but it is not at all true with how they treat their employees. bullying is not uncommon, scare tactics, underhandedness, I could go on ....someone needs to go to the news or media and give an honest portrayal of what they are really like, and as another on here said, perhaps a class action lawsuit would wake them up. more people need to stand up for their rights and against them and how they treat their employees!   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Was a good organization back in the early 2000's. Has since degenerated into a very toxic environment full of the usual signs of a poor organization: Top brass that are inaccessible; middle managers that are bullies and have no clue about how to run an organization; Lack of skilled and experienced workers since they look to reduce long term staff in favor of cheap contractors or experienced individuals. Decades ago pay was good. Now they are below average. It is all politics and brown-nosing. How that is supposed to create share-holder value and good customer experience (let alone employee satisfaction) is beyond explanation. Highly NOT recommended.

• Was a great place to work many, many years ago!! People are bullied, no room for advancement. Work life balance is very poor. They have resulted to using scare tactics. • VERY CORRUPT, GREEDY, horrible workplace. management has little to no training. especially "service assurance" group. i worked here several years. if you complain to HR, you will be bullied/set up to fail and fired. they laid off over 10000 employees just to replace them as contractors, which are paid less and have no rights.
  Telus was voted #1 for pay discrepancies between the bean counters and front line workers.
  you will probably never get a raise, and be told your lucky to have a job lol. if you HAVE TO work here, don't stay long.
  I hope this company goes belly up.

• This employer used to be good years ago but, they have changed drastically for the worse and created a horrible atmosphere and use vicious tactics against long-term workers. Bullies are promoted and encouraged in the workplace. Older workers are forced out through underhanded tactics and threats. The workplace at Telus is toxic, harmful to families and just skirts massive lawsuits with teams of employment lawyers to protect them. Stay away from this company. • wow. so much has been said, and each rater has described Telus pretty accurately.
