• Not a great place to work, little opportunity to advance, no effort at all on the part of the company to train employees or adopt new technology. Upper management regularly decrees silly priorities (like office re-organization) rather than focus on developing the business. • This is truly a poorly managed company. The individuals at the top haven't a clue. They are there without/lack the skill necessary to perform in their positions. It's the worst company I have ever worked for. The politics within the organization are staggering. This could be a world class employer but there are too many silly, greedy, stupid people at the helm. France should shut the place down. Employees are treated like dirt. • The worst company in my entirely 30 years career.
  Horrible management, unbelievable burеакracy, tons of useless paper and people.
  No one is doing anything but complaining how busy he is. Unbelievable.
  Can anyone say what exactly 1350 employees are doing in Toronto’s office?
  Another stupidity is a single room washroom on the floor for 300 people. Awful.
  Recommended only for CEO position.

• I did not like my time at Thales one bit. I do not recommend any this place to anyone. I would never work there again, not even if they paid 100k+. The senior management is completely incompetent. I wanted to quit from day one. I finally got the nerve to leave, even with no job for me waiting. I would rather go work at McDonalds than waste my time with this place and the people that work.
  It is a complete workhorse kind of place.
  If you are thinking about working there, dont bother.

• This has been the worst experience of my career. Unless you are completely and utterly desperate for work, do not bother with this company. It is a bad, awful place to work.
  The people are always angry and stressed. No one can seem to get along, everyone is cut throat, the work time is insane. Bad, bad workplace.
  The management sucks horribly, like everyone says.
  Do Not Work There If You Do Not Have To!!

• Overall, a good place to work. Decent wages and benefits (health benefits including prescription drugs (no limit), eyeglasses ($150 limit per person every 2 years), dental ($1500 per year per person limit), long-term disabilty (60% of salary for life if permanently disabled), life insurance (2x annual salary with option to buy more). The company however only pays for "single coverage", so if you have a family, you have to pay the premium difference. Long-term disability premium is also paid by the employee. All these premiums get deducted from your paycheque and will cost you about $1300 per year, but are still well worth it. The employee as well as the Company pays into a defined contribution pension plan (basically an RRSP wih Sunlife) with contributions increasing with your years of service. Not as good as a defined-benefit pension plan, but still much better than nothing. Paid vacation of 2-6 weeks, depending on how long you have worked there, for example after 10 years of service, you get 4 weeks of paid vacation. There is also a 1 week paid company shutdown between Christmas and New Year, consisting of statuory holidays: Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day, plus two free days paid for by Thales. Very nice! There is also a yearly bonus of up to 5 or 10% of your salary depending on your job ranking, individual, departmental and company performance. Wage increases normally lag behind the cost of living, the average increase last year was 2% company wide, with employees actually receiving anywhere from 0 to 3%. Location is very busy, but also very "upscale" near Don Mills and York Mills, with easy access to Hwy 401 and 404/DVP. It is a 10-floor office building with roughly 900 employees. Another nice thing is the company's "flex-time" policy, allowing employees to start work as early as 7:00AM and as late as 9:30AM, they don't care, as long as you work your 40 hours per week. There is 30 minutes of unpaid lunch which most employees stretch to 1 hour. On Fridays, employees can leave as early as 12:00 noon, provided that they have worked extra hours during the week. A few employees are allowed to occasionally "work from home". The workforce is very well educated. 50% of the workforce are immigrants from many different countries and most have a university degree in engineering, computer science or other technical fields. Job security is very good, in my department, the most junior employee has been with the company for 10 years and the most senior 29 years. The workplace is NOT unionized. Everyone works day shift, Monday to Friday. There is very little or no overtime in MOST departments. Company will pay for post-secondary courses if approved by your manager and HR. The company provides other perks such as discounted movietickets, Canada's Wonderland and Marineland tickets. There is a very basic "fitness centre" on-site, consisting of a small room with a couple of threadmills and a multi-function exercise bench, but hey...it's FREE! There is also a cafeteria on-site with good food but restaurant prices. A lot of employees bring their own lunch, which they are welcome to eat in the cafeteria. The cafeteria also has microwave ovens and a fridge for employees who bring their own lunch. There are also two coffee stations on each floor with microwave ovens and fridges. Thales provides free coffee and tea to employees.
  Most employees (including myself) seem to be happy working here, but if you do not have a university degree, your opportunities for advancement will be very limited or non-existant. Some employees seem to have too much stress while others do not have much to do at all. Overall, I am happy to work here.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Horrible place to work. I can't think of anything that was good about this place. The management sucked. The depts are all at each others face. If you can avoid working here, don't work here.

• Deadend job - skills not usable anywhere else. Horrible location for commuting. Lot of deadwood from failed aerospace companies.

• Cons
  
  1) The senior management is completely incompetent. Thales has probably the best communications based train control system in the world and could be the dominant company in the field however the senior management have failed to exploit the opportunity.
  2) Current office location at 401 and Don Valley makes for a nightmare commute.
  3) Senior management enjoy looking for a scapegoat amongst the employees to blame for the companies ills.
  4) Company claims that in Thales "people are first", this is a lie.
  Advice to Senior Management
  
  There are a thousand good employees in the building. Stop treating them like naughty children and start using them to build a world class company.
