• Integrity, Values, Corporate Culture and Values the company was founded upon, has been completely lost over the last few years.
  The Flight Attendants are often paid for half to less than half their work day, and are currently being harassed and being targeted by management.
  Work life balance has become almost non - existent over the last 2 years, and I’ve had to give up hobbies and working out .
  It used to be a fantastic place to work.
  Health benefits have drastically changed for the worse.
  Longer days, shorter rest, very unhealthy work environment.

• I started at WestJet eager and excited to work for a company that I thought was like no other. Over the last several years, I have come to learn that this company is not the company they started out as. Employees are just a number, over worked, significantly under paid and are seen as dispensable. There is a total lack of support and professional courtesy from the various levels of management. If you’d like to get into the airline industry, do yourself a favour and look elsewhere. I’m saddened to see the mess that this company has turned into. Sadly, it’s the not the “owners care” cute and fuzzy they portray themselves to be. Everything comes down to greed and how to increase revenues.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Have been here for 10+ years. I can understand the experience can be very diverse - afterall it's a big company. Frontend and office can be different. Different cities can be different. It's no longer a mom and pop, everybody rolls up their sleeves to get things done. But it's not at all a bad thing. There is more structure and organization that is necessary for a company that needs to scale internationally. I have worked in a few other companies before this and there's a reason I stay here for this long, and so do many others. Nowadays, professionals often move on after 2-4 years. The turnover rate is considerably lower and I have seen many people who have left for a supposedly better career, just to come back several years later. Should ask them why. The business is relatable, priorities are transparent. And the company keeps growing which is very exciting to be a part of. The only thing (and it prob. goes for every company) is whenever a senior leadership comes onboard, it appears that everything is on the table for a change. It almost feels like working for a different company to an extent. Sometimes it's good when it's for the better. • I worked for WestJet for 12 years. I came on excited and ready to make this place my career. I was highly skilled at my job and told do time and time again from guests and management. This company has gone down hill quick. Management are not trained properly and have very poor attitudes. The caliber of people getting hired now is laughable. WestJet treats its people terribly and has wasted my time being there. The pay is a joke, even if you're the best at what you do if you're not best friends with whatever clown is manager you will not be considered for a promotion. The hours are bad. There is no seniority or union and WestJet takes advantage of that. Most toxic environment I have subjected myself to and finally left when I couldn't take it anymore. • The best thing about WestJet is the people. If you ask anyone who calls themselves a “WestJetter” what they most love about their job and their company, they will probably say it’s the people.
  
  I’m sure it can be said of any company that what the public sees and what actually goes on behind closed doors, are two very different scenarios. I personally, do not believe that there is any company that is outwardly portraying a greater fairytale to the general public than WestJet.
  
  On the outside it’s all about a superior corporate culture, providing exceptional guest service, and taking care of people. WestJet is incredibly fortunate to have outstanding and loyal people who still hold to the original core values. People who still believe in the founding philosophies of “the-little-airline-that-could.” People who still take their jobs seriously, but not themselves and people who take care of each other, so they can take care of the guests, who will take care of the business. Unfortunately, WestJet has been taking advantage of these same people for several years now. WestJet, this new WestJet, has been coasting on the brand created and nurtured by these wonderful people. WestJet has relied on the good nature and the “can-do” attitude of the frontline employees to continue to sell the culture, and to sell WestJet, even though the brand and the culture that is being portrayed doesn’t exist anymore.
  
  A decade ago, when for the very first time, WestJet recorded an loss instead of a profit, the CEO at the time chose to take a pay cut. His salary for the year was to be $1.00. Naysayers will scoff and say things like, “well he had stock options so it’s not like he needed a salary,” or “he already had millions in the bank, so what did he really sacrifice?” etc. etc., but that gesture did more for the morale of WestJetters than any other made by any CEO at the company before or since. These days, when the company decides to “cost-cut,” it’s from the bottom up, never the top down. It’s the frontline employees and the guests that will be asked to sacrifice, never the managers or executives.
  
  My reasons for leaving WestJet had nothing to do with a dislike of my job. I loved being a flight attendant. In particular, I loved the people I worked with, and the guests. For that reason, I could no longer watch as work conditions and guest service continued to falter and deteriorate. I could no longer apologize to the guests for failing to deliver the service that they had paid for, because I wasn’t being given the tools to do my job effectively. I could no longer listen to the lies being told to the employees by management to cover up for the lack of legitimate work rules and legal representation. I had to leave, because I was no longer working at the company I was hired at. I could no longer pretend that the WestJet that the public sees on the outside is the same as what I was experiencing on the inside. Night and day. Disneyland and North Korea.
  
  If you decide that you want to work at WestJet, despite all the reviews that you have read, including this one, my advice to you is this: don’t drink the kool-aid. Keep your head about you and always ask questions. One day, you’ll finally realize that instead of staying in a dead-end job at a company that considers you disposable and uses fear as their “motivator”, just so you can have standby flight benefits and a profit share cheque twice a year (which, by the way, will never compensate for the amount of time that you spend working for free), that it will be better to get a real job with real benefits and a real salary, so that you can afford to fly confirmed on a better airline than WestJet.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• I spent nine years with the company giving 110% each day I worked. Some months I only had 4 days off, my choice of course, because I love going to work and I love my job and I love everything about the company (at that time).. Over the course of my nine years there I watched the culture slowly disappear from something to be envied to something to be laughed at. You're told over and over again how much WestJet looks after each other internally yet when push comes to shove they are quickly to get rid of those who speak your mind and want to better their work environment for all. There are people in positions that are simply in those positions solely based on their previous years with the company. Is my firm belief that position such as HR positions need to be filled with those who are educated via a educational institution and not just promoted from within. Because of this lack of education from those in positions to make critical choice,s employees are improperly managed, insufficiently supported and ultimately frustrated with the lack of professionalism with the management and supervisory staff. The chance to appeal your hasty or unjust dismissal is provided, however truth be told it's more of a façade than anything. Arming myself with 23 character reference from fellow employees who worked side-by-side directly with me wasn't even enough to convince the manager to reconsider the dismissal and situation at hand. I don't regret my entire time with the company as I've gained numerous friendships that will last far beyond the term of employment with the company. However, to say that sour taste has been put in my mouth and my impression of the company today and into the future is sketchy would be undoubtably accurate. • Instead of it just being a response, I will make this a review.
  
  This is probably the worse company I have ever worked for. They make you try and believe that westjet is as good as it gets or will get (drinking the blue koolaid). And not only that, but my teamlead, who will remain nameless, (you know who you are) advised me in a one on one meeting with herself and the manager of the deparment that I either quit or be fired.
  
  It always sat wrong with me. Did a little google research and found out that could be legal grounds for wrongful dismissal.

• I spent 13 years with WestJet and saw it go from a great company to a joke. I spent my last few years in the "People Department". They boasted no lay offs, but a lot of people left due to "Reoranization". The focus was always on preventing a union, not doing the right thing. I've sat in HR meetings where theconcerns of the flight attendands and pilots were the subject of ridicule. Leaders talked the talk but never walked the walk. • At first it seemed great, however as my time progressed I found it less and less enjoyable. When I first started I didn't have an immediate manager, then a peer was promoted to that position who was in my opinion did not have the required skills set. Over time this individual became less and less dependable and was not communicating requirements to me. It became inevitable to me that my employment was going to be terminated and thats exactly what happend over a period of 9 months. I filed a complaint against this individual and at the end of the day nothing really done. I did however make some great friends in my short time there and enjoyed working with a few former collegues. I do agree with some other's feedback that there are a lot redundant processes and positions there, and I almost feel that you can't question your superiors as that is frowned upon (again my opinion). They like to push the concept of team and telling you that you are now part of the 'WestJet Family', unfortunately if you disagree with family you're ousted. I do however see alot of potential at WestJet and hope they can change their process and get some competent folks there. WestJet is still a fairly young company and with some maturity they can improve. I still travel WestJet for most of my travel, its just unfortunate that I couldn't get anyone to listen and no not even the CFO or VP of HR.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• I worked here and was SO excited. I fell sick and missed a few days of work. I had a doctors note from the hospital. I was let go before my probation was up. I complained to head office and was told I was let go for bringing down station average attendance, and to set an example. I was told I should not have been let go, and given free airfare for a trip that was planned. Told brining me back would undermine station manager decision and set a bad example to staff. • I am an eight year employee. When I was hired I took great pride in being part of a team. After only a few years all of the good managers were gone and were replaced by ladder climbing sociopaths with absolutely no management or personal skills. It has become toxic. I held my breath when new management came in two years ago, hoping they would clean house but it has gotten even worse. It has spiralled out of control. If they treated the employees like they claim they do, it could be a dream job again. For now it's time for a union. Completely out of control.
