• After working for YM for over ten years, with mediocre pay, lots of overtime and manager who are rude and aggressivu re e I had to move towns due to the covid pandemic, when I reach out to get a transfer the company kept telling me there was no position. Even tho there was a posting online and the staff at the store said they where hiring. The email that I had with HR where aggressive and gave me time lines and forcing my to resign even though I was more the willing to work as even a part time sales. • I worked for this company for nearly three years (Stitches). The only reason I stayed was because I needed the job. In the time I was there, the store went through SIX managers. The district manager is not to be trusted. Most of the managers and assistant managers can't be trusted either (although there were a few exceptions there). Advancement is almost non-existent and when it happens, they advance their personal favourites and not based on merit. Only reason I gave this company ANY stars was because this rating platform requires it. If you're looking for a job and you have another option, DON'T work for this company. They WILL break labour laws whenever they can get away with it and they will have little to no regard for your personal well-being. • 1 - was told to work excessive amounts of over time up to 16 hours on sale days and visual days.
  2 - corrupt, violent management were rewarded and praised for their "tough" attitudes.
  3 - workplace bullying.
  4 - unfair expectations
  5 - staff exploitation
  6 - paying part time staff less than minimum wage because they are 16?
  7 - no work/life balance
  8 - forced to come in when sick
  9 - Upper management made their own hours and came in and left as they pleased
  10 - for everything stated above - NO ONE IN HEAD OFFICE (Including DMs and RMs) CARE SO FORGET YOUR RIGHTS, FORGET LAWS, JUST MAKE BUDGET AND SHUT UP OR QUIT (just quit, seriously.)   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• I left after one month. Quite frankly the most horrific work place I have ever seen. They blatantly break Canadian labor laws, break federal laws, lie, don't pay over time..the list continues. There was at least one employee crying in the back everyday. Also, all of their product is made in china or Bangladesh. I found child's gloves in one of the stock boxes. • I worked for YM inc ( Stitches) when I was 16. I was working there 6 months when a manager from another store fired everyone and robbed the safe/cash register. They transferred me over to that store as I had the most seniority and expected me to manage the store/ hire staff and deal with the massive inventory that was coming in for Christmas. I dropped out of school temporarily to deal with it. I was getting paid $5.90/hr and working 60 hour weeks. I asked for a raise when the district manager came around and they denied me. I then quit and went back to school. (best idea really) but yea they are scummy and push labor laws and are a truly horrible company.

• This company is engaged in blatant violations of labour laws in Ontario. They illicit "volunteer" positions to students in lieu of actual paid part time positions. Once the student quits, they simply find another desperate student willing to work for free.
  
  If this company isn't willing to contribute back to the community that they are established in, then they definitely do not deserve a single penny from anyone.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Wow, I haven't worked for this company for 9 or 10 years now but by the sounds of it, it's exactly the same. I was fired after being a manager for 4 years with them. They actually falsified/planted evidence on me. The DM(worst boss I ever had, we didn't much like each other) told one of my employees to put every single sale under my sales number while I was the back dealing with stock during one shift for the entire day. They then took that day of sales and said i was stealing money from the company via commission fraud.
  
  I was a fairly young manager at the time and just sat there and took it. They called me a white collar criminal, which is laughable and also stated that I'm lucky they weren't pressing charges. I really didn't know what to say. I should have filed a lawsuit, but it's well in the past now.
  
  After they fired me, they actaully made a policy change so managers could not make commission as part of their wage. I find that hilarious because it was almost to protect themselves in what could have been a lawsuit.
  
  But, I just actual want thank you YM for firing me! I now have a degree, a great job with a rock star company, make way more money and don't have to work the shitty hours that were expected of me. • This is hands down the worst company I've ever worked for.
  I was a manager, I worked hard, worked tons of extra unpaid hours to get things done. My rewards were " do more, work harder, work more hours".
  This company cares about $ money $, not there employees. If it weren't for the loyalty and determination of my team, I would have not been able to accomplish the things I did. But I must pay them no more than the bare minimum wage, cut their hours to accommodate the business, and motivate by pushing harder.
  I would not recommend this company to anyone.

• I started as a Co-op student last year at Sirens and I really enjoyed it. I absolutely loved the all of the employees. Not too long after I got hired and I was super happy. I enjoyed my first 3 months there because I was getting lots of shifts which is rare apparently because my store apparently doesn't hire 'full time', only managers get that which I was cool with because at the time; I am on my year off to work so I can go to college. Then it just got so difficult to keep up with everything. I was being compared to the other girls that have been working there for years and this was my first job. Soon enough, my manager started harassing me . My every move she was watching, she pushed me really hard and I thought "well she has too, maybe I'm just super slow". My DM complemented me on my work ethic and pace - exactly what my manager was always saying I needed to work on. My hours started to get cut very drastically. I was even asked to work for free 2 times. I went from crazy amount of hours per week to 1 shift a month & this is only my 8th month at this place. I have never given my manager attitude, never mistreated the employees or store merchandise . This company is a joke & I DON'T recommend it to ANYONE.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• When I first started I was very welcomed, I was able o work well and wanted to work well for them. I could have easly been a lifer. I worked hard and made my business boom. But I got no regongition.I got. Nothing but empty promises ,and my above was full of favouritism and policy violation. Which was forced on me to do when I refused to break policies, I wasn't given a choice not to , so I left . The open door policy never was there and no one helped me when I needed them . • I have worked for ym for a few years now. When I first started here everyone made me feel very welcomed and included in the team. I do feel like we are not paid as much as we should be for the amount of work we do. However I have never worked in a place where going to work feels like visiting a family. Everyone truly cares about one another. This does not just include store level this also includes the head office. I have had issues like some of these comments. But no matter where u work somedays are good and some days are. • I don't respect a company that violates many laws under the Employment Standards Act. Also, one that 'messes' with your paycheck. If I am at work I deserved to get paid, I am not a volunteer for this company. If I am off at ten I will either go home, or if you need me to stay for any reason I will, but expect to get paid. • What can I say about this company? Thoughout my many, many, many years of off an on work experiences..I finally had enough. I only ever came back because of the amazing staff I got to work with...and not AT ALL because of the store/company itself.
  
  YM is a multilevel franchise where they treat everyone the same - poorly. Even DMs who've been with the company 25 years find themselves demoted, fired or pushed to their breaking point. I've seen Visual Managers fired for no reason, DMs promoted because of their good looks and zero expertise - I've even found myself being paid more than manager who had 5 years more experience than me which was ridiculous considering I wasn't a manager.
  The staff that works- I mean really works do it because they've formed a close group of friend/support system that they can rely on. It is never because they enjoy working for YM. Don't let that fool you.
  
  The upper management are all power hungry people who gossip and care nothing for anyone else. I've seen brand new DMs getting kicked to the curb and uninvited to lunch like petty teenage girls by the Vice President.
  
  Many companies are like this - but for people who are trying to work their way up..those who want that first job experience...this company is not for them.

• I worked for this company for 6 years. I was easily promoted to higher management, but the company is full of empty promises. I think it goes for all banners of YM. They always 'promise' their employees things & never carry through on it. They never appreciate anything the employees do & only notice things when something is done incorrectly. The quality of the clothing is HORRIBLE. There were so many times when shipments were coming in to the store & there would be dirt, dead bugs & even mold on the clothing. They always promise you a certain amount of hours but when the business is slow, they're so quick to cut hours no matter what position you hold & how good of a worker you are. It was my first job and I started off as a part time, moved to full time then moved to management. Nothing throughout the 6 years ever changed with the higher management. They tried to make it seem as if the company was a high end store trying to make us wear dress clothes, but we obviously went against it & wore whatever we wanted to. If there was one thing that was annoying, was the pressure to harrass customers to buy things. As a consumer you only go into a store to buy certain things, you can only force a customer to add on a few things. They were always constantly under staffed and never had enough people working, especially on weekends which led more people to steal. Majority of the time the setup of the floor was being changed on a WEEKLY basis. They have poor judgment when it came to setting up the store & doing planogram every single week & they wonder why sales were never high enough. It's because one week employees would be folding a 1000 t-shirts, and the next week they would have to hang it. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone, not even students. It's not worth working for a company where you're not appreciated for anything and promised hours then only used when other people call in sick.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• This is the worst company to work for. All the managers are on a power trip and take advantage of their employees to get what they want, even if this means doing things unfairly or even illegally. This job is way to stressful and difficult to only be paid minimum wage. The whole company seems unintelligently run and they need to get their managers in check because this company and each of its stores seems unorganized. • Worked with one of their stores for a short period of time.
  It was not the greatest. No recognition. no raises. benefits ARE bare minimum.
  LITTLE hours are given for a HIGH volume store.
  TOO MANY CHANGES. TOO MUCH PRODUCT.
  HORRIBLE COMMUNICATION FROM HEAD OFFICE.

• I worked for YM Inc. for just over a year under the Urban Behaviour banner. I would not recommend it to anyone.
  
  The store I worked in was huge, and not to mention also in the largest mall in the province. Store Manager was (is) catty and lazy - often disappearing for an hour or more without any notice, and gossiping about SA's behind their backs. Employees are expected to always (even when ill) perform at 200%, and are given no recognition or appreciation for their efforts. Being a Keyholder, Visual Merchandiser, or even Stock Manager is no better. We were always treated like we do not know how to do our job. No work / life balance. Quick advancement is possible (a co-worker of mine was promoted to Keyholder within six months) but you are constantly under stress, treated like crap, and are given no respect from upper Management.   read complete rating Hide complete rating
