Can someone please speak to the Train Operator position? I am in the recruiting phase in the GTA and am curious what the position is like (how you are treated, actual schedule, $, etc) Please be honest!! thanks
What is a train operator? a conductor? a locomotive engineer?
Conductor
Let's see where to start....schedule= none. Don't try to plan anything a week in advance or even 3 days in advance. your on a spareboard. You can think your safe when there is 4 guys a head of you on the board but bam, an extra yard, guy booking off sick, a rescue and your first up. After a long haul your entitled to 24 hours and after accumilate 1075 miles you can take up to 48 hours off. you won't get a regular job for 20 years unless its a job that no one wants. the money is great for the amount of work you actually do. where i am off the spareboard a guy can make close to 100 000$ a year.as for how your treated it depends. You try to do your job and go by the book and you should be ok. But you are efficiency tested often throughtout the year. But piss a boss off and be a confrontatial employee and they will come gunning for you. got anymore questions let me know
sounds like a terrible schedule for very average pay and a poor work environment. management seems to respond to all the negative posts with bullying tactics.
